My hair has never looked better
by Shanthrax at Citysearch
My husband grew tired of my constant dissatisfaction after getting my hair done at another (cheaper) salon so he looked up city search for "best hair" and found LF. I lucked out my first time, got Peggy (a goddess among mere mortals) who transformed my graying, mousy hair into the best color I have ever had in 35 years. She is worth every penny. She rescued me from another coloring which didn't work and refused to let me go until it was perfect.
The salon is fun and energetic. It will cost you but it is worth it.
- Pros: Peggy, the color specialist
Love, love, love this place
by Leelee H at Citysearch
I went for my first time this week and turned my hair over to Peggy in Sugarhouse. It is the BEST color and cut I have ever had and WELL worth the money. People have told me they have NEVER seen my hair look so great. I am thrilled to FINALLY be happy with my hair and my husband said it is my best hair cut/color in the 38 years we've been married. Thanks Peggy! I hope Peggy stays around until I'm dead and buried. ;)
- Pros: Expertise of Peggy. Friendly Staff
- Cons: Pretty expensive though well worth it.
Money suckers!!!
by Mjones at Citysearch
I went to get the hair color and she did not do the right color. I asked her to fix it and told her that I wil not pay her unless she fixes it. She messed up my hair...my hair has been falling out like crazy since then...it is the branch at parley way ..this their customer service.
- Cons: Just care about money
Margie Rocks
by cquilter01 at Citysearch
I went to Margie for a haircut that seemed to be impossible to achieve. Everywhere else i kept getting random weird cuts and thought maybe I was explaining it wong. I love that Margie took the time to listen and then asked ME a ton of questions to make sure she understood what I wanted. My hair is WAY too curly and she worked with it soo well. the cut was exactly what I had been wanting! Love her!
- Pros: love my cut
Hit or miss, but usually a HIT
by jemjamie at Citysearch
To be fair I've been to lunatic fringe a handful of times and it is a good place - a few times have been good, a few times were bad. There were a few times where I was really shocked by the conversations (and I was a 28 year old who has seen and done it all) by the staff.
I agree with keeping things on a more professional level - and usually it is there... just a few times has it been distasteful. Overall lunatic fringe is a great salon with great creative talented people, and I give it the benefit of the doubt. I'll likely be back, and if it's not chill again then I'll pass.
- Pros: Great talented artists!
- Cons: Artists have bad days too!
sell outs
by ilikesnow at Citysearch
I hate to write a bad review, Im not that type of person, but I feel like I got duped out of 600 bucks and I have been crying for three days over this. I got hair extensions 8 days ago and they are already falling out, there are clumps of hair all over my house. Not only that you can see the wefts of hair coming through all over the place. That upsets me because I specifically asked her if that would happen and if it would, Id just get a hair cut instead, and she said they wouldnt. The braids they are sewn to have slipped (and vey crookedly) down at least an inch in some places, and completely out on one row. The "hand tied" hair I paid almost 300 bucks for is unravelling all over the place, large peices of it fall out all the time, and threads from it, and the thread that was used to sew them in stick straight out of the back of my head and are visible. They looked good for exactly two days. I was given no instruction on how to care for them, I asked several questions regarding care and was told only the two following things "use a heat protector, and be careful combing them". After washing them, they looked like a horse tail, and I was laughed at (literally) by two girls in a store. I wasnt told to use special products which I have since discovered is a neccessity, nor the other long list of things you must do to keep them looking normal. I just figured out how to care for them, courtesy of a hair forum, and now they are FALLING OUT! I paid 600 bucks to wear hats on my head for a week! Of the three rows only one is still completely intact. I had a consult where none of my questions were really adressed, that should have clued me in. The stylist seemed more concerned with getting paid, than with answering any questions. The place also had the WORST customer service I have ever experienced. Its like they managed to find all the rude girls from high school and employ them in one place. Youd be better off buying clip on hair, you would be happier!
- Pros: cool logo
- Cons: McDonalds? Walmart?

Awesome experience, Andrew is a master
by txranchgirl at Citysearch
Just moved from the SanFran bay area. I'm very careful about who does my hair, and heard that this salon had been numbered among the best in Elle.
Andrew, one of the owners, was recommended and I was thrilled with not only his talent and professionalism, but also his taking time to discuss what I wanted and create an overall great experience. Most importantly: my cut and color is fabulous quality. Definitely returning faithfully.
Thanks, Andrew!
- Pros: quality and professionalism
If you are looking for amazing results
by Blackrose2P at Citysearch
I usually don't let people do anything to my hair but wanted a change and was recommeded to go to Tonya at the Sugar House Lunatic Fringe Hair Salon. I walked in and was greeted warmly and ask if i want something to drink. Tonya walked me back and we discussed what I wanted to have done to my hair. We premed my hair which turned out great. Then she showed me several way to style my hair. I found that her prices were reasonable for the service that she provided. I will be going back to her as she is very sweet and likeable.
- Pros: best stylist i've had
TRY TOO HARD
by lizziehollywood at Citysearch
Hated it, i love to go to salons that make u feel important and make you feel pretty. yeah not here, stuck up staff, deffinately try to hard style wise and dont full cater to their customers...... when i go to a salon spa, i expect to be treated like a queen.. its called PAMERING YOURSELF......i wasnt even a biotch when i got there, but when i left i was pretty p!ssed.
if you run a salon and people are paying you $$ then ya better be nice..... common sense with that kind of business...
- Pros: close to my house
- Cons: snobby stylist'
Amazing!
by kdancer at Citysearch
I went to lunatic fringe after trying a lot of places in salt lake. It is by far the best I have been to. Peggy is amazing. She helped me find a cut that flattered my face shape and even showed me exactly how to do it. I have never liked my hair so much and have never gotten as many compliments. It is expensive, but Peggy is worth every penny.
- Pros: everything
- Cons: $
