Tastiest turkey sandwich in town

by bobdog29

I just moved to the Avenues and tried this place for lunch. The turkey brie and apple sandwich is by far the best turkey sandwich I've ever had. Fresh roasted turkey (not slimy deli meat) and amazing bread and it was HUGE! We tried a fruit tart and cookie for dessert, both were really good. The review below about the place across from Carol's Pastry (which is in Sugarhouse) being dirty must be about some other bakery, Paradise Bakery in Sugarhouse maybe (?) because it's clean, the waitstaff was friendly and helpful with suggestions and the atmosphere was pleasant. The breakfast menu looks fantastic, I can't wait to try it out for brunch this weekend. I highly recommend the Aves Bakery!

Breakfast of Champions

by RiverRio

Great food at a reasonable price. Try the weekend brunch, you wont regret it. Come hungry, but be patient as the space is limited. There isn't much of a waiting area, so you should be okay with waiting outside. They put a emphasis on local foods first, a very eco-friendly business. Great coffee to boot. Lunch is much more informal during the week, a great take-out spot. Wonderful breads too.

  • Pros: Great food, eco-friendly, eclectic
  • Cons: limited parking, limited space

Great place!

by bobbob99

While looking for a breakfast joint before 8 of us headed back to LA, we were referred to Avenues Bakery. The service was great, the omelettes were off the charts, the coffee was better than any Starbucks, unique breads, local suppliers, just absolutely awesome! Try the omelette but make sure you add mushrooms, red peppers, olives and the salmon. Can't wait to visit this place again!!

  • Pros: Great atmosphere, great food and coffee.
  • Cons: Parking was tight.

Uncovered food, people coughing and spitting all over & yuppies drooling. TERRIBLE! Pathetic!

by missflash

I went in this joint just one time and it was pathetic. I thought since they had the nerve to open across from the best bakery in Utah, next to Carol's Pastry, that they must be good. Only in their mind! Saw all the so called bakery food looking awfully old and very dusty and most of it uncovered to the public. I wondered why they did not put the food in a case or at least saran wrap it! People were coughing, sneezing and spitting. The only customers in there were a few Yuppies who were drooling and trying very hard to look cool. Employees had vacant stares and looked like they needed to be dipped in Clorox. It is such a Filthy Place. I walked out without daring, nor wanting to try anything! I lost my appetite within 1 minute of setting foot in that disgusting place. Plus, their outdoor sign is out of proportion to the building. I try not to even go by that place, because just seeing it brings back the trauma of just how terribly filthy the place is. It makes one wonder how they are allowed to be so dirty in a food business. I would not let my cats eat in such a place or even a dog that I did not like! At least the yuppies have a place to go.

  • Pros: Yuppie wannabees keep off tyhe street by going here!
  • Cons: TOO many to be healthy!

Nice Place

by megustastu

I like this place a lot. I've had sandwiches from here many times and they're always quite good (the brie and apple sandwich is better warmed!). We went in the evening to try out their dinner menu on a Sunday and they were serving their lunch menu (?). So, we ordered sandwiches for dinner. The only other thing that is strange about this place is that, when I've gone for lunch takeout, there's always a bit of meyhem and I don't quite know where to stand or what to do. Maybe a front counter or waiting area would suffice?

  • Pros: Sandwiches, Varied Wine List
  • Cons: Strange Flow, server knowledge

Good Sandwiches; overated bakery

by doctor_stu

We are new to Salt Lake an exploring some of the top rated places here on Citysearch. Avenues has good sandwiches, soups and salads, but the cream puff was a little hard and dry, as were the cakes we tried. There has to be better bakeries than this, although it wasn't "bad"..

Exquisite

by kateb23

While not yet having been there for lunch, the dinner menu is a definite treat for Salt Lake. The portobello was delicious and Matt's curry was very flavorful. While the creme brulee was quite tasty, the chocolate cherry bread pudding was absolutely divine. The ambiance is great and the service was good. I especially like the fact that the chef came out to check on us.

  • Pros: food, evening ambiance, dessert

Dazed and Confused

by aimster01

I have been to the Avenues Bakery several times in hopes that their service and organization would improve, no such luck. The servers are very unfriendly and all seem a bit clueless to the fact that they are working in the SERVICE industry. Dedpending on the day of the week and time of day you may seat yourself and a waitor will come to your table (if your lucky), and other times you may need to order at the counter. Good luck figuring it all out, you will be lucky to get a blank stare from one of the employees, let alone any guidance as to how to go about ordering one of their overpriced menu items.

  • Pros: Good Food, Good Parking
  • Cons: , Prices/Value

A neighborhood joint with freshly baked breads, an impressive array of pastries and an eclectic energy.

by Contributor

In Short
From the distressed-sepia stone floors, to the high industrial ceilings and custom metal-work detailing, the space exudes a cozy eccentricity that entices everyone from office workers and students to housewives and locals. In addition to the selection of breads and pastries, the bakery offers a full lunch menu complete with the ultimate grilled cheese sandwich on the house rosemary bread and a deeply flavorful roast beef sandwich.

worst service ever

These people think they are above every customer that walks in the door. Don't waste your time on average food and beverage. Go next door to einsteins and at least you will be treated like a human!!!!
