Must try and love!

by jyslc at Citysearch

My fiance and i absolutley love this place. Convient downtown location, nice atmosphere, and most importantly the food is excellent and the prices are very easy on the wallet. I can't say enough good things about this place... just try it for yourself and you'll see. Support local downtown businesses!

  • Pros: location, great food, really good prices

Awful service

by chickitti at Citysearch

I agree with the last review. I don't know what happened to this place. Is a real shame. It used to be really good, the spices and you saw the owner taking care of the patrons. Not anymore. Last time I went we waited for almost an hour for our food, it was beyong ridiculous. The service was horrible, the food arrived when we were leaving for another restaurant. Once it was there, the food was cold, who knows how long had it been sitting out, do we get an apology, of course not. To the owner, what happened to this place?? I used to bring in people all the time until this happened last time, I was so completely embarrassed.

Just plain AVOID IT

by naimailyah at Citysearch

Hello, My name is Naima Ali I am middle eastern. My dad lives in Salt Lake City, I live in New York. The first time I ate at House of Kabob my dad took me there he said that there was this amazing restaurant that just opened and he wanted me to try. So he took me and the food was so full of flavor and delicious, I would go there all the time when I would go to Salt Lake City. I haven't visited my dad in like a year and a half. When I came I went straight to House of Kabob and the food was so flavorless, bland just plain. The basmati rice was all oily and kinda hard. My favorite kabobs had been completely changed the flavor just wasn't the same as when I used to go, it is like if they completely changed the recipes or something. And to top that off the service was terrible. I thought that it might have been just that day, but I went again and same thing. I just don't know what happened to House of Kabob, but I am not going to go there again. I am just going to have to find another middle eastern restaurant go to when I am in town. And question to who ever is in charge. Why change something amazing you guys once had?? : ( I am just disapointed!!

  • Pros: the location is excellent
  • Cons: the food has changed for the worst

Goldmine!

by slcwhite at Citysearch

This place is a goldmine in SLC. Great food, great service, really cute. Not many people have seen it or heard of it, eventhough it is on a main road. Everything we've had has been excellent. Highly, highly recommended!!

  • Pros: Food, Service, Good prices

Quite a surprise

by maorimama at Citysearch

Just try to find this place - blink and you've missed it. The food was quite good and portions were generous. The combo that feeds two people can easily feed three. The salad served was mediocre, but that is not what you go for. The kabobs, yellow rice, dolmas, pitas and the marinated meats are all wonderful. I love how inexpensive this place is. The staff is great at explaining the menu (you'll need help if you haven't had this type of food before as the menu is a bit extensive).

Comfortable, casual Main Street cafe serves Middle Eastern and Mediterranean favorites to a buzzing lunchtime crowd.

by Robyn Galbos at Citysearch

The Scene
Tucked back a few steps past the main entrance, this comfortable, quiet cafe is easy to miss if you're not looking for it. The space is long and narrow with few windows to let in natural light, but fanciful murals, faux exposed-brick walls and copper-painted tables and chairs lend warmth. Service is friendly and efficient, despite some gaps in menu knowledge.

The Food
Robust Middle Eastern and Mediterranean specialties are served for lunch and dinner at reasonable prices. Winning appetizers include dolmas--stuffed grape leaves served with a tangy, creamy yogurt sauce--and Middle Eastern favorites like garlicky hummus and crispy falafel. Entrees include a variety of Persian kabobs and stews, Greek souvlaki, and a handful of vegetarian dishes. Lamb shank, served with aromatic dill rice, delivers delicious savory flavors in tender, fall-off-the-bone bites. Decadent desserts include tiramisu and various cakes, but the flaky, nutty baklava is the perfect way to finish your meal.
