What users are saying:
fancy but not very good Thai food... more Asian fusion with emphasis on fusion
by katasurfer
There is a saying in Thai... very pretty, but not very satisfying when kissed... That fully describes Thaifoon... very 'watered down" Thai food, in fact I did not get an authentic Thai food note in any dish I have eaten there. But again very pretty, high quality service, but don't come here for your favorite Thai dishes, you will be disappointed. I brought some Thai business clients here and they laughed at how they could call this 'Thai Food"...
- Pros: pretty place & great location
- Cons: Thai food
Service: Meh. Food: Mmm!

I've only been there twice (one time was on my birthday and we got a free chocolate souflee, heavenly!) but I do expect to go back. Their sushi is delicious and the appetizer that's like a lettuce-wrap-thing is divine! Although both times, our waitress was really rude, and this last time she acted as if every question (about the menu/food) was a personal inconvenience to her and everyone she knew... sometimes people forget that their attitude reflects on their tip ;) Aside from that, it was good!
- Pros: food, ambience
- Cons: seating, lighting, service
one word: AMAZING!
by foodobsessedmom
My husband and I did the Dine-Around thing at Thaifoon. We both the got Spicy Tuna Roll for the appetizer which was AMAZING! It was a plateful and really big rolls- we weren't expecting so much so it was nice. (They are pretty spicy though so watch out.) I got the Beef and Broccoli for my entree. It was delicious. The waitress said it was made from filet mignon and it definitely tasted like it- tender, like butter. It tasted charbroiled or something (as did the broccoli) which was a nice surprise. Nicely portioned with good amounts of both beef and broccoli. My husband got the Honey Walnut Shrimp. It was amazing!! and I was jealous by the end of dinner. The walnuts were candied and delicious and the sauce was sweet but savory and just hands down scrumptious! (I'm definitely getting it next time.) We both got the banana-filled tempura egg rolls. Again, we were pleasantly surprised by the portion- it was HUGE. It's a big egg-roll looking thing cut in half and plated very nicely with a generous scoop of vanilla bean ice cream on the side. The roll was nestled on top of a creamy whipped cream and the plate was drizzled with caramel. Fresh strawberries with a delectable strawberry glaze was also on the side. Definitely go during the Dine-Around promotion- for only $30 a person you get a 3 course dinner with amazing portions and stellar quality. The only drawback was that they sat us right next to where the waiters get their water pitchers and extra plates- probably a safety hazard since we had a high chair in the middle of the aisle. But other than that- amazing!
- Pros: Great quality of food, Great portion-size
- Cons: A little loud, Specialty drinks don't come virgin
Awesome beef dishes
by HCFrog
My favorite thing about this place is that they use filet mignon steak in their beef dishes. At all other asain places I've tried, the beef is weird and chewy. Everything at this place is really high quality. My favorites are the Evil Jungle Pricess beef and Mongolian beef. Excellent flavors, great service, and wonderful atmosphere.
- Pros: High quality food, atmosphere, service
- Cons: can get crowded
Good, very good
by sarcasmanaut
Busy, but with a good staff, and good food. I enjoyed a vegan pad thai there, and felt very comfortable, though I'm sure we looked very out of place, with studded jackets, goofy hair and too many piercings. It's not my favorite restaurant, but it is yummy and it's always nice to find vegan and vegitarian options at restaurants, though that is typical of asian cooking. It's pricey, but worth it if you're in the mood.
The best Asian I've found in Utah so far
by mckingsley
Very good quality food. I don't even know if it would be considered authentic - thats why they call it Asian fusion- but it definitely has authentic tastes mixed with high quality ingredients, and a nice atmosphere.
My Favorite Restaurant!
by tslack
This is my favorite restaurant and I'll tell you why. The atmosphere and food are excellent. I often go there between 4-7pm just for the half-off appetizers (Spicy Tuna Tempura Roll is my favorite). When I'm not there for appetizers I always enjoy the Tom Kha Gai which is the best recipe I've ever tasted anywhere. I don't know how authentic it is, but I could care less. It tastes so dang good! The entrees that I absolutely love are Evil Jungle Princess Beef, Orange Peel Chicken, and Pad Thai. Other dishes I've tried and also love include the Firecracker Chicken, Seafood Hot-Pot, Korean Sizzling Salmon and Sweet and Sour Chicken. The service has always been good (never any complaints) and the ambiance is wonderful.
- Pros: Delicious Food, Great Ambiance, Half Price Appetizers between 4-7pm
- Cons: Pricey but worth it
some of it was really good..BUT
by mistyfr
We took the whole family. Started with appetizers that were very tasty. but something was up with the fried rice. At first I just thought it was kind of icky but then I smelled it..OH MY GOSH instant gag reflex to the festering meat smell..I really almost "lost my lunch" on the dining room table my heart started palpitating and I felt shaky. I hate to complain or send things back..and usually if I just don't like it I will lump it. But I felt that management should know so they could find the source. They were nice enough about comping off the offending entre..BUT they had total poker face and tried to tell me it was some mystic spices I was smelling....I am not a scammer and I was not trying ot get a free meal..I just don't appreciate being served decompsing meat ICK..
Thai food?
by alexamay
I didn't like the fact that there was no Thai food. Whats up with that? The other stuff as good but their name pisses me off!
- Pros: Nice service, Nice atomosohere
- Cons: No Thai food!
My new favorite place!
by hippychick
I've read some pretty crummy reviews for this restuarant and I couldn't disagree more! I just moved here this summer but overall I haven't been too impressed with the bland, over-homoginized eateries I've had the bad fortune of enduring. Thaifoon is an oasis in a desert of bad restuarants. My sister has been to Thailand and says the pad thai is the best she's found since. The beef stirfry was to die for -- chain or no chain, I don't care. The setting is relaxing, the service is polite, the food is great, and it doesn't cost an arm and a leg. I like the Gateway and this is a great place to sit and chat over a meal with friends (and you can actually hear each other.)
- Pros: decor, food, quiet setting
- Cons: none
