Great salon & great stylist
by Megan224
I called Akasha as soon as they opened and got an appointment for the same day which was really nice. I had Lois as a stylist and she did an amazing job. I got a partial weave highlight on my hair, my hair is super thick and sometimes if you don't put the right stuff on it it comes out crazy colors like purple or orange but she knew exactly what she was doing. I also have super long hair and she was able to give it a good trim without stealing my lenght!
- Pros: great location, friendly staff, experienced stylist
- Cons: none
Great for Walk- in Services
by gapeachy
I've been a client of Akasha Salon and Spa for over a year and have always had great results whether it be in the Salon or Spa. I walk in because the hours I work are always changing so I don't mind trying different Massage Therapists or Hair Stylists. I walked in recently in the early evening and was pleased to find new faces. I had my hair cut by Kirk and was once again extremely happy, I highly recommend this Salon.
- Pros: excellent stylists , open late
- Cons: none
Fabulous Salon and Spa
by iprincess
I moved to Salt Lake City from California a few months ago and was so worried about finding a place where I could get great hair, and spa services. I found Akasha through a co-worker and had my hair and make-up done after having a wonderful facial. Pam did my make-up and Lois did my color and cut. I looked like a different person. My boyfriend loved it and I will be a faithful client forever.
- Pros: Friendly staff and excellent service
- Cons: none
Disasterous results
by formercalifornian
A prior poster commented on turnover. I can vouch for that fact. Things appeared to change when Nathan and Lois were hired. It was explained that they worked as a team because Lois was a color "specialist" and Nathan was the creative director, which normally indicates a talented stylist. (Heads up this means you have to tip two people if that's an issue for you.) Well my color with Lois was okay, but not what I'd expect from a color specialist. Nathan gave me a cut shorter than I wanted and was difficult to work with. Lois raved about what a great haircut Nathan gave me and how fab I looked. When I arrived for my next appointment, Nathan was gone and Lois did my color and cut while I heard all about what a liar and psycho Nathan was and why he had been fired. It was not exactly soothing and pampering. When Lois (who took over as creative director) cut my hair she kept commenting on what a lousy (cuss word beginning with S actually) he did and how when I left the previous time she was wondering "What the hell is up with that hair cut?" I'm sitting in the chair wondering why she went on and on about how great I looked if it was a bad cut. Wow!. Realizing the person with the scissors in your hair lies to you about looking good when you don't is a pretty creepy feeling. On top of that she made a call to someone about a reference I gave her and called me the wrong name!
Oh, and the two owners Pam and her daughter are never friendly. In all the time I've been going there they have looked right at me and never even said hello.
I would not recommend this salon. There is too much change in staff. I've never had a truly amazing experience and the owners don't express any interest in you or thank you for your business.
- Pros: Interesting that old garage was convert to spa
- Cons: Horrible stylists - unfriendly owners
Great Color
by jaguarsoul
I went to Akasha to get my hair cut and colored. Lois is absolutely amazing. She actually listens to what the client wants and delivers that. My hair looks natural and I have received more compliments about how it looks now than I ever have in the past.
She also has a way of making you feel at home and welcome. I will definitely go back to see her. Great job Lois and to the rest of the Akasha team.
I feel beautiful!

I recently turned 30 and realized I've the same ordinary hair cut for several years. I booked an appointment with Aja (on a referral) for a trim and color, my usual, and came out looking amazing (if I do say so myself)!!! While sitting in her chair, I started to tell Aja how bored I was my "usual" but didn't know what else to do (I am NOT the most creative when it comes to hair ideas and am definitely not one to spend more than 10 minutes in the morning on styling). Aja talked to me about what I liked and didn't, gave suggestions and WOW! I came out looking like a new person!! I absolutely love the cut and color. She showed me how to style it in under 10 minutes (bonus in my book). I would recommend her to anyone and everyone!! The entire staff is so friendly and the overall experience definitely "wowed" me.
- Pros: ambiance and amazing staff
- Cons: none
ThankYou Akasha (a letter recently recieved)
by just visiting
I wanted to say thank you to Lois, Jenn and the entire staff at Akasha. My color looked so natural and withstood the sun and salt water during my vacation in Mexico. Jenn did a terrific job on my brows too! I wish I could move to Salt Lake City just to keep coming back to you guys!
- Pros: Amazing natural color
- Cons: none
Chronic staff turnover
by traveltravel
I've been going to this spa for almost two years, but no more. The management at Akasha must be terrible because the turnover in staff is ridiculous. I've lost count of the stylists that have come and gone. Just when I develop a relationship with someone I call to get my next appointment and find out that they are gone. It's not just my stylist, but my favorite esthetician and massage therapist. Oh, and the front desk staff is never the same except for the cute girl with the pink hair.
Like other people I tried Lois. She was partnered with a stylist named Nathan. Lois did color. Nathan did the cut. Nathan is gone (great gossipy story there which they have no problem sharing!) and Lois will probably leave soon because all she talks about is how much she hates it here and misses Boston, which is not exactly entertaining as previous reviewer commented.
If you want a "cool" place to look at then this is the place for you, but if you want a long term relationship with a stylist or esthetician you aren't going to find it here.
- Pros: Zen meditation room
- Cons: Cannot keep employees
Aja is the best
by ashergns
I have been to Akasha twice for a haircut and color and have been more than impressed. I went to Lois for a haircut and color and was happy with my results. Also two of my friends went to her as well. I recently went to Aja and i couldn't be happier! She is so young and cute and really understands modern hairstyle. I would recommend her to anyone.
- Pros: The salon is beautiful
- Cons: None
Amazing cut/color!!!
by AshleyG
I just moved here from New York, and I have been looking for a great hair sytlist. A friend of mine referred me to Akasha and they set me up with Aja. I really can't begin to explain her talent she is amazing. I actually am more impressed with her than I am with some of the stylists in NYC. I am very picky about my hair and really have a hard time finding good stylists. I am so happy with my hair and I would totally recommend Aja for cuts and color. Also, after my appt. they gave me tour of the spa and it blew me away. It reminded me of my favorite spa in NYC, I was so impressed I booked a massage for next week. I have been to other spas here in Salt Lake and have been very unimpressed. They have an amazing meditation room and water wall and their customer service was excellent. I can't wait for my massage!!
- Pros: great boutique, service, and staff
- Cons: can't think of one
