User Reviews for Monk's House of Jazz

Bathrooms are bad... beware but the customer service is excellent and music is 1000 times better. Went last night and watched a local band Melon Robotics - that was the smoothest reggae I have heard since Bob Marley. Drinks are affordable and temp membership fee not bad at all. Lighting is nice, the seats are crud

Finnally a bar for the younger crowd that doesn't consist of Meat Heads having drinking contests and telling women to take their tops off. Free Parking downtown, can't beat that.

Pros: Atmosphere, Drinks

Cons: , Sometimes Smokey

Although we had the entire place to ourselves, (that should have been our first clue) the service was terrible, and the placed looked like it hadn't been upkept in 10 years. Monk's House of Jazz is such a cool name - totally misleading. The best part was playing some music on the jukebox. What a dive.

Monks is a little basement bar that has been sorely neglected. Most of their chairs have broken arms or backs. The tables have to be at least 30 years old...the seat cushions are ripped and torn. It lopks like a rotweiller went to town on the furniture. It is a dingy dank place with bad service. We paid a $5 cover and temp. membership fee to hear some amateur rap group....yuck! Too bad someone else picked the spot to celebrate New Years because I would never go there on my own.

I had a great time at this club. Mostly because I liked the music and I'm not used to a jazz bar in Utah. I definitely recommend it for a change:)

Pros: Good Jazz Music., Good alternative

Cons: not very diverse.

Not a bad place, but don't expect Jazz music. At least it wasn't the night I was there. The band playing was more along the genre of Blink 182. Although not bad, it was not what me and my friends expected when we paid our cover charge. Service was exceptional though. Mixed drinks were mixed well, too. Good bar tender here. Crowd is fun, too.

Hipster basement jazz club that's decidedly not all that jazz.  See the full editorial review.

Parking

The best place to park is in the terrace at the Walker building. After 8:30pm, the attendant leaves, the gate is left open, and it's free parking all night.
