Great place, very caring

by pugmommaof2 at Citysearch

I just want to say i have been a volunteer at the yuppie puppie for 4 years, and so i may be a little baised. But i love this place and everyone who works there. I have seen first hand how hard everyone works ther to help the animals, and im sure that they are absolutley dedicated to their cause. Everyone who works their has other jobs and work there not because they need the job but because they enjoy working with the animals. I know the owner Heather Franc is 100% dedicated to andimal rescue and that she just dosnt help dogs and cats she is a wildlife rehabilitator to. I find it facinating that any one who considers them selves a animal lover would try and discourage anyone else from adopting there. Obviously some people are so focused on themselves they cant take into account the thousands of animals the yuppie puppie has saved from dying and the thousands of people who have adopted and never had a problem. Ill bet the the the 2 posts on here complaining have never spent 1 day volunteering at a rescue place and felt the frustration over and over again from people thinking only of themselves and not the animals they claim to love. Like the post of the lady who had her dog for 6 months and decided it was to agressive and sick for her to keep but wants it to be someone elses responsibility to fix fer dog. It is typical of todays society to blame someone else for their problems. I sure hope she never has a sick kid and try to return it to the hospital because it was ill and she didnt sign up for that. If it were me me i would have done everything under the sun to help my dog and not throw my hands in the air and try to return it to the orginization i adopted it from. And im sure the yuppie puppie isnt the only rescue group that cant take in an agressive dogs that a vet reccomended euthanizing. And as a volunteer there im thankful for that, i know that the staff ther would love to be able to save every dog but has customer and volunteer saftey to think about also

  • Pros: caring dedicated staff
  • Cons: none

Very helpful

by boxerlabmom at Citysearch

I dont no the circumstances around the other posts, but as fom me, my adoption experience was great. I adopted my lab boxer mix baby in may of 07. I found the staff very helpful, insightful, and obviously love what they do. I filled out an application i was approved and came in for the adoption. I thought the paperwork was very explanatory as to the terms of the adoption what was covered what was not, the fact that the puppy was taken from a shelter and they couldnt guarantee what he had been exposed to. I guess i might have been of a different mind set than the person who who had a sick dog wnd wanted the rescue to pay for it.. I knew i was adopting a puppy with an unknown history or medical information and that this was out of the control of the yuppy puppy, and i knew at the time i adopted my baby i was responsible for his care, be that he was healthy or became sick. My boy did great, the employees were great and he was a prince through obedience lessons, he was neutered as per my adoption agreement and i have nothing but praise and respect for the Yuppy Puppy. I hope they continue saving the animals and i will continue reccomending them to every one i meet.

  • Pros: They really seen to care about the animals there
  • Cons: not enough places like this around

ANOTHER warning to anyone considering adopting from Yuppie Puppie/WA Rescue!

by rebbephd at Citysearch

While Utah has many wonderful and reputable animal rescue and adoption groups; this is not one. I speak from personal heartbreak; as my experience is the same as Skipper 727's. While I do not blame Yuppie Puppie or WA Rescue for Noah (WA Rescue called him "Buster") getting/having distemper; the owner, Heather Franc, failed to act when we called asking for assistance. Heather's response was that she was moving the business from her former location on 700 East to the current one and that she did not have time to deal with "adoption problems." I actually begged Heather for help with saving our dog or at least figuring out what options we had. Heather's tone was rude, uncaring, and she told us that this was not her problem. Heather also refused to return our adoption fee in order to help out with Noah's mounting vet bills and euthanasia.

People reading this may think our situation was extreme and you may be correct about the health of the dog; however Heather Franc's attitude and business practices are well within her control. She offered no refund, no kindness, no sympathy, and she is still in business. Please, be careful if you find an animal you want to adopt at the Yuppie Puppie. Understand that WA Rescue has not been there for others when problems came up. Yes, I understand that moving a business is stressful, however this is no excuse for not following through on the advertised mission of your rescue group.

Heartache is not always avoidable and some adoptions are bound to have problems. Please go with an organization who is willing to be there for you when the worst happens. Support the groups that care and follow through. My only comfort from this experience is knowing that Noah's last days were spent with people who loved him and that when he died in my arms I felt his spirit leave the pain of his body. At least I know he went in peace. Heather Franc never called back to check on us, the situation, etc...

  • Cons: Expired food for sale; uncaring owner should not have a rescue group.

A warning to anyone considering adopting from Yuppy Puppie/WA Rescue!

by Skipper727 at Citysearch

Get a clear understanding of their guarantee. In other words, find out if they back up their adoptees (they did NOT in my experience). We adopted a cattle dog mix in 2003. Red flag #1; Yuppie Puppie/WA Resucue did not require that we provide any documentation proving we neutered and vaccinated the dog within the coming weeks following his adoption (of course, we did). All was great for about 4 months until he began showing aggression and bizarre unpredictability. He began biting everyone with whom he came in contact; including two friends' children. He attacked and bit me daily. He became a danger and a liability. After several days of desperate frustration, my partner and I contacted the owner because we had no experience with this sort of thing. Our hope was that she would be wiling to take him back and rehabilitate him (naive thinking, I know now), but we knew that if we took him to a shelter, he would be put down. For someone who is such a dedicated pet rescuer, she seemed apathetic (perhaps overwhelmed). She was not willing to take him back and had no suggestions except to turn him in to SL County Animal Services. We took him there and were assured he would be euthanized within a matter of days because he had bitten children. We left there and took him instead to our vet. He was diagnosed with neurological damage from advanced distemper, even though we had had him vaccinated, post adoption. Noah had to be euthanized.

If you are thinking of rescuing a dog or a cat, PLEASE, look into SL area rescue group; C.A.W.S. If you have ANY problem, whatsover, with a pet adopted from C.A.W.S, they REQUIRE that you return the pet to them --no questions asked -- and not to the 'pound' where the animal will be at risk for euthanasia. CAWS is a true rescue group; once they take on a rescued animal, they take responsibility of that pet for LIFE. Yuppie Puppie/WA Rescue will offer no such post-adoption support, nor take any responsibility for that animal once in your hands.

  • Cons: Dog food in their inventory was even expired.

Beware: Yuppie Puppie (Wasatch Animal Rescue) is associated with a fraudulent dog rescue from Las Vegas called "Diamond in the Ruff."

by wildflower801 at Citysearch

I adopted through an organization in Las Vegas that is associated with Yuppie Puppy and Utah Animal Rescue. I paid to adopt a puppy and never received it, although I was promised a refund that never came. Needless to say, the staff at Yuppie Puppie knows all about the fraud , knows the people who are purptrating it, and has been asked by the victims to help recover thousands of stolen dollars. They will not take any action. Watch out for this group. They associate with other organzations that are not honest or legitimate.

  • Cons: Associate with fraudulent dog adoption organizations.

LOVE THIS PLACE

by Hillary2020 at Citysearch

I love this place!! I cant get enough. The first thing you will notice when you walk in is CAT Cats cats. The cats they have for adoption wander the store greeting and playing with you the whole time. This is an adoption place plus a pet store and they have grooming. Its is so nice to go to a pet store where the employees love the animals and are pro rescue, i wish all pet stores were loke this.

  • Pros: GREAT PLACE
  • Cons: there is only 1 store

A nice shop for gifts for your pooch, and a humane rescue facility for dogs and cats.

by Contributor at Citysearch

In Short
This small shop has it all: A full-service grooming salon, obedience training center, dog treats, healthy food selections and a full adoption center (Wasatch Animal Rescue) dedicated to placing dogs with good families. This is no puppy mill--the Yuppie Puppie offers adoption only to individuals and families they know will care for the pets.
