Great friendly club
by bentley at Citysearch
Best new club in SLC for a smoke-free evening of entertainment. This is both a great singles bar, as well as a good place to take your partner, you can actually breath. Susy is the best bartender, and all of the servers are great. If you are looking for an evening of fun, try the Tavernacle you won't be disappointed.
- Pros: Great Service, Atmosphere, Non smoking
Thanks for the resolution

I had a problem that The Tavernacle has fixed, and taken care of. I just wanted to be fair to them, and let everyone know that they resolved my problem.
- Pros: nice pianos
Great Entertainment.....Not So Great Service!

My husband and I love this place and love the loud obnoxious people there. We always take our friends here...but NEVER forget to inform them of the SLOW and UNFRIENDLY bar service.
- Pros: Always Great Entertainment
- Cons: BAR SERVICE =(
Love it!

Spent a great New Years Eve here. Atmosphere is great. Musicians are funny and talented (and a bit adult rated at the end of the night). Drinks seem cheapish. It's like nothing else in SLC. Everybody seems happy, and despite the amount of alcohol consumed people remain friendly and polite. It's a lot of fun - lots.
Great place

I have only been to the Tavernacle a couple of times, but have always enjoyed myself there. The people are friendly and easy to talk to, and they have good food and great live bands.
- Pros: Great atmosphere, food, bands
- Cons: Parking can be difficult on weekends
A bit of insubordination in a town that needs it!

How do you get better than this place? This club is crowded and fun. Even a smoker like me enjoys this non-smoking club. The dueling piano nights are the best. By the time 11 p.m. rolls around, everyone has had enough booze and enough nostalgic music -- good and bad -- to all be friends. This is one club in SLC that is actually unique. Most people here will end up making wonderful fools of themselves by the end of the eving, singing along to Livin' on a Prayer by Bon Jovi or screaming the words to Sweet Caroline. It is a truly bonding, fun, party without the BS kind of club.
- Pros: They take reservations for large groups. Membership is cheap!
- Cons: PARKING in downtown SLC always hurts.
Can I get a Hooah!

This was my first visit to a bar since I just turned 21 and a had a killer time with my buddies. The pianos were awesome. The females loved to dance on them (they also enjoyed the dollar bills). I highly recommend this place. Great atmosphere and service.
- Pros: Service, Cover Charge, Drinks
- Cons: Parking, Small Bathrooms, No Food
Best place to get together with friends...

The Tavernacle is by far the most entertaining bar Salt Lake City has to offer. There is a distinct neighborhood feel to it. The service has always been phenomenal and the staff is friendly, fun, and hardworking...Ben is the best bartender in town and Erin is the best server! And of course, Kirk, Eric, Tara, George, and Troy on the pianos!!! I recommend the Tavernacle to everyone I know and have celebrated my last two birthdays with my friends at the Tavernacle...you'll never have a more entertaining birthday! They are expanding into the shop next door so there will be more room and a second bar coming very soon!
- Pros: Convenient parking, Great crowd, Not a meet-market
Good food, good show, not so great service
by mhenrie at Citysearch
That pretty well sums it up. The times I've been to the Tavernacle it has seemed that they do not have enough staff to keep up with a busy crowd. Then the self destructing monster happens. Patrons go to the bar to get their drinks which ties up the bartenders which slows down the waitresses which makes more customers to to the bar and so it goes. The wait was occassionally 10-15 minutes from ordering a drink to getting it.
The dueling pianos are great and they have good food but the service has never been impressive.
- Pros: Good Food, Good Show
- Cons: Slow Service
Sing along with the piano men while drinking your tonic and gin.

The Scene
Located in a renovated copy shop along what was once a sleepy downtown block, the Tavernacle is making some noise: drink specials, regular karaoke nights and dueling pianos have made it one of Salt Lake's most crowded nightspots. A friendly staff keeps the cocktails coming, and the bar has emerged as a hot spot for meeting and greeting on weekends.
The Draw
By its own declaration, it's "the place where everyone else goes to sing." The highlight is you've-got-to-see-them-to-believe-them duelin' piano players (a regular cast of talented, versatile singer-musicians) belting out standards from the '60s to the '90s. A spare live microphone allows for the occasional croon (or squawk) from game audience members and the room has already developed sing-along traditions for "Friends in Low Places" and "Piano Man," among other songs.
Just what we needed!

The Tavernacle has brought Salt Lake City just what we needed! A place that we can be comfortable and have a great time. I went for the first time last weekend and just had a blast. I would recommend that you check it out. How much fun did the birthdays have?
