Welcome to the fifth-largest ski area in the U.S.

by Contributor

In Short
With a multitude of high-speed lifts, a ton of skiable acres and a majority of its runs split between the intermediate and advanced levels, the Canyons is one of the largest and most popular resorts around. Neophytes also are flocking here since the resort added an area near Red Pine lodge with two lifts and terrain specifically designed for beginning skiers and snowboarders.

Vital Stats

Vertical drop: 3,190 feet
Base elevation: 6,800 feet
Top elevation: 9,990 feet
Lifts: 16
Skiable acres: 3,500
Beginner terrain: 14 percent
Intermediate terrain: 44 percent
Advanced terrain: 42 percent
Snowboarding: Yes

snow sucks

by jpcrockett

NO WAY is this resort better than ANY of the Cottonwood canyon resorts. people who post that this is the best don't know much about skiing. i have skiied all my life. and as i have said before, if you care at all about snow or killer terrain, you'll go to the cottonwood canyons. sure, every resort has some tough stuff, but nothing at ANY PC resort is anything that'll make you wet your pants. now, if you go off piste, you'll find something. but inside the boundaries, it sucks here. no way on earth is the canyons better than the bird or solitude. no way. too pricey too.

  • Cons: snow sucks, snow sucks, snow sucks

Awesome Family Vacation!

by chirowedoc

We went to The Canyons for the 1st time a year ago and we are about to go again for the 4th time! We have never had such an easy ski experience as you will have staying at the Grand Summit Lodge! 5 star accom. within 30 feet of the ski school and gondola! Ski instuctors were great, they had my 8 year old skiing moguls by her 5th day of lessons! No lines, tons of terrain, great grooming, friendly service, great accomodations! What more could you ask for!

  • Pros: Great Skiing!, No lines, Great accomodations
  • Cons: expensive

easy to expert

this mountain has everything for everyone. being the third largest resort in the nation, the canyons are able to "provide." The back country areas are pristene most the season and challenge even the best skiiers. I love it!!!
