Great in the past, but not in the present.
by MattLTH
We have frequented Carl's Cafe for years. But after this morning, we won't be going back. The service was not good. Even though only half of the tables were occupied, we finally had to ask to have our first (and only) coffee refill.
Later, we discovered that our rye bread was moldy. We both immediately lost our appetites. We informed the staff and they were apologetic. They discounted our tab by not charging us for the coffee and OJ, but we felt like we had just paid for a moldy meal.
I really hate to see this happen to independent restaurants. I don't like eating at a national chain, but food safety certainly trumps the philosophy of buying local. I hope the owners of Carl's Cafe take a close look at their operations with haste before they lose more loyal customers.
- Pros: Close location & independantly owned.
- Cons: Service and quality has gone downhill.
Okay but not the best
by dalishas
The food is so so and very greasy. I wouldn't recommend this breakfast joint. The interior is dark, dirty and has been the same for the past 15 years. They don't accept credit cards so be prepared with cash or check book. My party of 3 and one other table where the only ones in and we waited for our breakfast for over 30 minutes. The cook was sitting around talking with the waitress and meanwhile wiping his mouth with rags they use in the kitchen. Yuck. The employees are nice but its not very good food. I would check out the food inspection reports before eating here. The last food inspection was done on 6/2/2009 and they failed! One star and 11 critical violations. Gross. This is the inspection report from 6/2/2009:

Small Locals Place---Great Breakfast!!
by willicar
I recommend this small place for breakfast any day of the week!! You may have to wait a bit to get a seat but worth the wait. The bisquits and gravy rocks!!
- Pros: Great food
- Cons: small, may have to wait at times
it's o.k. but i don't get whatever everyone raves about
by wabenaki
it's teeny tiny & doesn't accept credit cards. the food it good but the portions are disappointing. one would expect the gut buster to bust one's gut but it falls far short of that. the tables are crammed together and if there are toddlers or younger kids in the place, expect to have them underfoot or step on them.
- Pros: tasty food
- Cons: crowded, no credit cards, kids underfoot
Lots of food for low prices
by DARCI
Mmmhhh... yum! This little "mom-and-pop" diner has great food at great prices, and everything is flavorful as well as abundant! I couldn't believe how much food our orders came with for the price on the bill. It is a little small, so you won't find this to be a group dining area, but really really good. Try it and you won't be disappointed.
- Pros: Delicious food, cheap, lots of food
- Cons: small, may need to wait for table
Heading to the slopes? Stop here first for a big-time breakfast.

The Scene
It's a tiny strip-mall coffee shop--open only for breakfast and lunch. On the weekend, you'll usually have to wait outside for a few minutes. Be sure to check out the specials listed on the wall by the kitchen.
The Food
These are whoppin'-huge omelets. Some go for the basic omelet, which includes any two fillings--when in doubt choose the thick-sliced bacon and fresh, sliced mushrooms. Special omelets are also offered--recent choices included feta, artichoke and sun-dried tomatoes; and jalapeno, tomato, cheddar and sour cream. French toast is a bargain. Lunch choices head into the burger and sandwich area. Try a Westerner (mushroom-cheese burger), an Easterner (pastrami, cheese and tomato sandwich topped with thousand-island dressing), a Northerner (roast beef and Swiss, grilled on honey wheat bread) or a Southerner (turkey, Swiss, bacon and avocado).
Great Breakfast

Carl's Cafe is a classic, small restaraunt with a great feeling. No matter what you order you will be pleased. The service is excellent, I would recommend to get the early to avoid the wait.
Cozy Cafe

Carl's is one of the best breakfast spots around. Try one of their great omelet's! The service is always good but the seating is limited.
- Pros: Good Parking, Great breakfast, Good service
- Cons: Small, Closes early, No liquor license
