Great care. Moderately expensive

by StuckinUtah

We have been going here for 5 years. Initially we worked with Dr. Law and more recently with Porter. I trust their clinical skills - I'm an RN and it is obvious to me they are good. We had one cat with kidney disease that Dr. Law helped us with...Dr. Porter later put that cat down and that was a great experience given the circumstances. I just got back from the vet, our other cat had 3 of his canine teeth extracted...I'm $900 lighter but the cat is ok. We have been to American Paws and Willow Creek too. Willow Creek was actually even more expensive and I felt like a number. American Paws seemed less skilled. All in all, Cottonwood Animal Hospital is a great place.

  • Pros: DVMs and Techs very good
  • Cons: Bring your wallet

Please do not take your pet here

by skisickie

After releasing my dog saying that she was better she came home only to die. Nothing was adjusted on the huge bill. So much for my loss.

  • Pros: My poor baby died
  • Cons: would not do anything about it

The only veterinary office good enough for my dogs.

by tomatohd

I don't typically write reviews, but I read some of the negative reviews on here and wanted to give my opinion. I've been a client of Cottonwood Animal Hospital for over 10 years. I have always been treated well and my three dogs have all received very high quality care. My dogs have had many surgeries and procedures done there over the years and I would never visit another veterinary office. I have recently been seeing Dr. Cox and he has always gone out of his way to explain various options and costs. He also is very patient with my many questions.

I have had to visit during their emergency care hours and have never regretted going there. As a matter of fact, that was one of the reasons I chose Cottonwood Animal Hospital. There is a veterinarian on site 24 hours as day, as opposed to other offices which only have a vet on call.

Cottonwood isn't the least expensive veterinary office in the valley, but they are also not the most expensive. I believe their pricing is moderate, but I'm willing to pay for quality when it comes to my pets.

  • Pros: Quality care, multiple treatment options, good service
  • Cons: Moderately expensive

Never take your dog here! The people are horrible. The facilities are nice but what does that matter if the care stinks?

by DogCatBirdLover4ever

This place charges for everything. I'm surprised there isn't a coin slot for the restroom. I got charged for a same day appt., a walk-in appt, and an emergency appt. The reception staff was okay, but the technicians acted like they had more important things to do than console someone. The doctors apparently have to handle more than one case at a time. They are uncaring, everyone seems to be yelling at each other. People walk around like they are mad at the world. I would NEVER go here again.

There place is the worst I have ever seen.

  • Pros: 24 hours clinic-you must be desparate
  • Cons: ewverything you could possibly think of

Not Compassionate - When it Was Needed Most

by PAMDOUGTORIJ

We've taken our pets to Cottonwood Animal Hospital often over the last 19 years. We have always been treated well and have spoken well of the clinic. However, recently, we took our 13 year old Lab/Mix in to be put down. This decision was not taken lightly by us, and we had re-thought it many times over. Watching her health decline, vision fail, her personality change leaving her a shell of her former self, finally made us realize that we needed to help her pass. We phoned the clinic, telling the receptionist what the situation was and her very kind response was 'it's time.' We anticipated this kindness to follow us throughout this ordeal. It stopped at the front desk. We waited over 45 minutes. When Dr. Cartisano, arrived, she seemed very concerned over a superficial ailment and not the underlying issue of age and overall deterioration of our beloved pet. We were urged to treat a possible infection. Why treat an infection when she was struggling with limited vision, limited kidney function, days without a bowel movement, tremors, weight loss, a complete loss of her former 'lab' self and a total lack of enjoyment in her life? We had already explained all of the ailments and behavior changes and still she was pushing antibiotics. When we declined to treat the infection, Dr. Cartisano responded with 'there's probably cancer there also'. Why push antibiotics when she suspected cancer all along? The experience left us feeling she was concerned most with selling a service, not our pet's well-being. It had to be obvious that we loved our dog, and wanted her out of pain, yet she treated us as though we had brought in an errant puppy that we didn't want to deal with. We were distraught when we arrived, devastated when we left. It was a pitiful display of callousness. We had defended CAH when a friend told us of a similar experience when they had to put down their elderly dog. We will no longer defend them.

  • Pros: Very good with our dogs and cats - they love animals!
  • Cons: End-of-life care was heartless (vet-only, the office staff was kind)

AWESOME staff!

by NikoleP

I would HIGHLY recommend Cottonwood Animal Hospital. I took my dog there when we found out he had a tumor in his chest. They were very compassionate and sympathetic toward what we were going through, and got on top of what was going on. When he finally decided to pass, we took him there to help him pass all the way. The entire staff was very supportive and genuinely kind to us while we said goodbye as well as any arrangements we needed to make afterward. Thank you so much! It made the process a lot easier.

Best veterinarian clinic in Utah, bar none

by SheltieJim

I am a board member of Sheltie Rescue of Utah and have used Cottonwood Animal Hospital for my own dogs, as well as for the hundreds of rescued Shelties that have gone through our program. I've been a customer of theirs for about 15 years and have nothing but praise for the clinic, the vets there, and their staff. I'm sorry that az5656 (who gave this clinic a single star) had such a poor experience, because I have never encountered any such attitude at the clinic, even during emergency hours.

It's true that there is not a huge amount of parking (perhaps 25 customer vehicles can be accommodated), and they can get very, very busy on certain days of the week, which means that service isn't as fast as one might like. But the vets there are very caring and give as much time to their patients as is needed.

I agree that they are certainly not the least expensive vets in town, but they have never given bad advice with respect to my dogs' medical care (unlike some other vets I know who have literally given life-threatening advice because they didn't care enough to actually pay attention to the dogs!). One should also remember that emergency room treatment is always more expensive than ordinary appointments, and that no doctor can guarantee that every animal, no matter how sick, will recover.

I especially like Dr. Chris, Dr. Cox, Dr. Porter, and Dr. Pasquerello. The owner of the clinic, Dr. Law, is an outstanding orthopedist as well as a great all-around vet. I unconditionally recommend Cottonwood Animal Hospital to everybody I know. Full Disclosure: I spend a LOT of money there, but I do not have any fiscal or personal relationship with the clinic, its owner, its veterinarians, or its staff.

  • Pros: Excellent care, attentive and knowledgeable vets, friendly and helpful staff, 24 hour emergency room, highly empathetic, esp. w.r.t. loss
  • Cons: Sometimes overwhelmed with patients, especially during emergency hours

Incredible care!

by volley

I took my 12 year old dog in on emergency-July 4th, of all days. I was greeted by some staff members right away, who immediately escorted my dog to the back. When I spoke with the Doctor, I was impressed by her care and knowledge. She explained what tests and procedures needed to be done on my dog to hopefully determine what was going on with her. Through the entire visit there, I was kept up-to-date on the status of my dog, and asked if I was alright by the staff members. I was treated with respect and my dog was treated with dignity. I highly recommend Cottownwood Animal Hospital! I am sincerely appreciative of the care my dog received, the communication and thoroughness. Thank you!

all they care about is the $$$$$$$$$$

by az5656

I have been to this place a few times and each time I go back, I always leave saying to myself 'I will never go there again' I have only ended up there in extreme emergencies where I had no other choice. It is obvious that they are in it for the money not the care of the animals. I was disgusted with my last and final experience there. I have told all of my family and friends to go anywhere but Cottonwood.

  • Pros: open 24 hours
  • Cons: everything else
