Rebutting a Bitter Ex-employee

by rjnikola at Citysearch

Jennifer Billingsly, shame on you for using this forum to show the world your true character by trying to tarnish this school?s reputation. Let?s speak truly. Here is what you wrote before being let go for treating others with disrespect, ?To you, dear sir, I wish all the best & brightest! I am forever grateful to you ? The times at Healing Mountain have been some of the best & happiest of my life. I am where I am now, who I am now, thanks to the nurturing environment you created.? What changed in 5 years, Jen? You now work as an admissions rep for another massage school. Please, we all know each school has its? strong selling points. It is unethical to trash talk Healing Mountain on the web as well as at work in a vain attempt to sign people up for your current employer. Do you really think it makes them want to attend a school when the staff speaks in hateful & degrading ways toward others? I think not. As I said when I let you go, you have a deep-seated flaw that could take time to overcome. I feel sad you still have not made progress toward healing yourself. As for Healing Mountain, we all see through the half-truths, innuendos, and lies, and know it is truly a place of learning, compassion and personal growth for those who seek healing in their lives.

  • Pros: Small Class Size & Spa Training

What Happened in 5 years:

A. I grew up.

B. I went out into the world as a LMT and was told I didn't know what I was doing

C. When looking for a job through your list 10 out of 20 resumes came back.

D. Realizing I didn't have what I needed I spent another year of my life and $12,400 to go back to massage school.

Crazy

by Umbro881 at Citysearch

I agree with Jenn. There’s better places to go for school.

It’s like an abusive relationship where to the outside everything seems great, but on at home Dad beats the wife and kids.

This place is crazy. You feel like you’ve been through a war once you leave. Randy; what can I say? His post here is just like him. They do wash stuff in cold. It gives me the creeps.

Go to Myotherapy College, they're good.

  • Pros: Some of the staff are cool.
  • Cons: Bad Karma

Not just a school, but a family

by Gpezpanda at Citysearch

Going to Healing Mountain is more then just going to school. Its being inducted into a family focused on giving you the tools and insight to bring healing to the community at large. Healing Mountain will expose you to multiple modalities and allow to you grow without tight constraints. The faculty really truly care about you. With only 8 people per class, often you will find yourself developing deep friendships with those like the Financial guru or the owner or director of education or admissions... (you get the point). They will help you in class, and out. I would definitely recommend healing mountain to any who have a deep calling to bring healing into the world at large.

  • Pros: Small, detailed, fun great teachers, more then just a school
  • Cons: the building is alittle 70's but the location is perfect.

UPDATE 6/10/09 - Rebutal to Randy Nikola Owner of HMMS

by Astargatis at Citysearch

It's been a couple years since I atteneded Healing Mountain, so I can't speak as to the current Curriculum. Having taken the program, I found myself in the field with very little support. Job list was just that... a list on a board that was never updated. Upon Graduation I sent out 20 Resumes, and 10 came back as the spas no longer existing. I would also interview with a Spa that needed a Therapist who could do Deep Tissue and Trigger Point. This is what we were to learn in Massage 3. I did get an A in that class. However in my hands on interview when I needed to demonstrate those skills, the owner of the spa told me I had no idea what I was doing. I showed her what I believed to be the techniques, and she was shocked. She told me I had been taught to ruin my hands.

Since that time, and because I am very serious about my career as a Therapist, I took re-training at another school here in the Valley. It's been mind blowing to see the difference and to see how I've improved in both skill and body mechanics...

There were also small issue that really bothered me.. that I now also know to be Legal Sanitation issues. Such as in class Randy wouldn't have us change she's between working on each other. This is against the law. The use of Cold water to save money in washing the wraps, towel, and robes for clinic. That there was staff growing in the shower (the issues with the staff in the showers was later resolved).

There's a lot of DRAMA at this school, that's another story....

Mainly I can say this:

If you are looking to become a massage therapist, before you sign up for ANY program, actually call around to different spa, hospitals, chiropractors, etc. The people who would ACTUALLY be hiring you after your training. GET THEIR OPINIONS AND TAKE THEM SERIOUSLY. The fact is they'll know what they are seeing in the graduates from all the schools out there. They'll be your best resource bs the school will always tell you they are the best.

UPDATE 6/10/09 - To Respond to Randy Nikola the owner of the school...

Randy, you are right about one thing. When I worked for you those three months and Jesse told me I was having problems... I was. My Grandma had died, my mother went to a rest home, I lost my main source of income which was her care, my home, my car, had almost all of my belonging put in a dumpster by my aunt, and had to give up my dogs. I didn't know how I was going to make my bills, where I was going to live, and I was in a LOT of Pain and under a lot of stress and it reflected in my work.

These years later, and the growth that's come since, I can see why you had issues. However there are always two sides to every story. The cap being that it was a chapter close, all of it, and set me into my new course in life. For your thinking to fire me, and my walking out.... It just was. What was needed at the time from a higher perspective. I'm not "bitter" because I left ($7-8 an hour 15 to 20hrs a week vs. making $25,000 a year at eBay was a good change!).

What I hoped to express here is that people RESEARCH schools and that yes, I didn't have a good EDUCATIONAL experience.

It's also a call to you Randy. LISTEN FOR A CHANGE. Your school could be SO much better. It has awsome points on the spiritual.... but people go to school for a career as well.

Also... yes I do work for another massage school which I do admissions and relocation Nationwide. I enroll maybe 4 people a start out of 80-120 for Salt Lake which is one of 13 campuses. As to this being used to direct people to "My school?" They weren't mentioned in this review at all...

Again as I said before you enroll ANYWHERE (caps again) please research. The industry and the people doing the hiring is your best source.

  • Pros: Small class size, great energy work classes
  • Cons: A lot of filler classes vs. what you really need for the industry. Unclean.
