Great clothes! Great prices!
by Teja1414 at Citysearch
Decades is great! Two of my friends and I were desperatly shopping for two masquerade ball gowns and a 1940's diner waitress outfit, when we heard about decades. Of course we picked a Sunday to go shopping and in Utah... We were so pleased when we found out that they were indeed open! We quikly found not only all three completely unique outfits, but two sets of hoops for underneath the gowns! And on top of great and kind service, the prices were VERY reasonable. The most elaborate of the dresses was only $32, were we had found others in other stores that wern't vintage and really not as stunning, that were for over a hundred! Overall it is a wonderfull store and I highly reccomend it.
- Pros: service, selection, display
- Cons: Parking was a little tight w/construction outside
Uhh

They do have an awesome selection of EVERYTHING... Nothing here you can't find somewhere else with a little time to search.
I held my baby while browsing and I thought he was going to ask me to leave by the way he watched me and paced back and forth. I guess they either thought I was stealing or they were nervous that my kid would slobber all over their stuff... either way - it bothered me.
I spent quite a while searching for an outfit and I feel like that made them even more suspicious of me.
PS - I just called and asked what their hours were. All he said was "We're only open 'til 6" but the tone he said it with meant, "Don't even think about coming in, we're only open for 30 more minutes and don't want to deal with you"
I was hoping they were just having a bad day...but... seems that's not the case.
Why do you own a store if you don't want people to shop there? BOOOO!
- Pros: Cute cat!
- Cons: Rude owner
Selections Great For Costumes, Owner Needs some Manners
by Kive at Citysearch
Any period piece after 1900 you're doing, you can make costumes here. However Everything I've heard and experienced there has indicated that the owner isn't very nice. He was quite rude to me and my friends, has followed us around, and treated us like theives when we were actually there, and about to buy something, when he wouldn't just let us be human beings, so we, out of spite, left without buying anything, and we would only go back if we really needed costumes for a movie or photoshoot, and if we couldn't find it elsewhere first.
- Pros: Costumes, though not cheap
- Cons: Owner needs some Manners
Owner is Very Very Rude, clothes are overpriced.
by LucasKane at Citysearch
The owner looks like Perez Hilton (the blogger) and he acts very self righteous and entitled to everything in the store, like it's his own personal collection of rare star wars collector glasses or something. His clothing selection is nice, but nothing the DI can't brag about better. The owner is terribly rude, and frankly it's hurting his client base. Being one in many social circles hurting one customer who dresses eccentric hurts us all, and I'm sure without whomever actually funds his store behind him, he'd be out by now with how his attitude is towards people.
Serious just go to the DI or Thrift Town, because they at least treat you with dignity and respect, and they're prices are cheaper.
- Pros: Going to the DI instead
- Cons: the Owner
Owner must be milking his parents for money
by Five at Citysearch
Because there is no way he could possibly stay afloat in this economy with the way he treats his customers. I've read the previous reviews and it seems unless you are an older male (in your 40s or so), you will be attacked by this proprietor who is in need of serious medicating.
I did find his cat very endearing and friendly however n_n
- Pros: cute cat
- Cons: owner is bipolar and antisocial
Best Vintage Store Anywhere
by catcollector at Citysearch
If you are a vintage lover or just need to dress up for a fabulous theme party you will never find a better store in the country than Decades. I have been in vintage stores everywhere that I have traveled but have never found one with a more extensive and amazing selection or fairer prices. It reminds me of the stores that we USED to have when I lived in New York but with much more down-to-earth pricing. What on earth is it doing in Salt Lake City! I first read about the store in an article in the New York Times magazine and now I couldn't live without it- at least half my wardrobe must have come from there! The owner is incredibly knowledgeable and can help you find just about anything that you are looking for. You can see in his face how much he loves vintage stuff and he knows exactly what you will need for your twenties/fifties/eighties party that you need to throw right away. There is also a great selection of more modern designer clothing and jeans if you are looking for that. I wish they were open later- twenty four hours a day would be good- but they are open on Sundays which is rare around here. Anyway- I suggest that you run there as fast as you can. As long as you aren't my size. And pet the gorgeous store cat for me.
- Pros: Everything!!
I'm not one to complain but avoid this store!

if you are reading these reviews about Decades you should be seeing a common theme here: Rude Owner and staff! They actually have a sign in the store that says "No Unattended Teenagers". Are they kidding? Teenagers are not the only people that steal. People steal at any age, any time. I found that offensive, and I even asked the employee at the desk if they were serious and they said yes. The entire time I was in the store I felt like a criminal. They were constantly watching my boyfriend and I, and when I asked the manager to unlock the jewelry case so I could try on rings, i thought he was going to ask me to show him some money first. Even worse, as I was trying on rings he stood and watched me the entire time, making me feel rushed and uncomfortable. Nothing fit, but no hard feelings about that, just that i asked the manager if he happened to know how much it cost to get a ring refitted and he said no and asked me if I was done browsing and shut and locked the case. I would have bought something or even come back around Halloween for costumes but because of the rude service I will never go back to Decades. If you want cooler stuff, cheaper prices, and a friendly staff I recommend Coal Umbrella. They love teenagers!!!!
*By the way, if you're allergic to cats they have one in the store so you know ahead of time.

lots and lots of great vintage finds, although i see these guys scoring the local thirft stores and jacking up the prices, good for them. The location is great, pretty easy to park. Some good finds but the clothing items I have found, have never been in very good condition but hey its " vintage" not good vintage quality I guess. Got a dress there for a holiday party, paid twenty bucks, looked great in the fitting room, then zipper just crumbed when I got it home , right before the party... bummer. I have been going in here for years but seldom do these days just because of the horrible vibes that places radiates. mainly from the owner, who is un friendly and uber snobbish. For gods sake my man have a little integrity and be nice to your patrons. He really is so cold......Not nice at all......Won't go back for that one reason. Did i mention i also feel like a fugitve going in there? I have been watched like a hawk, what a terrible shopping experince. And I tell all my friends that too, seems to be a pattern. Sorry.
- Pros: great vintage finds
- Cons: Rude Owner, Bad Vibes
Vintage Collector's Heaven!
by acmedarling at Citysearch
I shopped nearly every vintage, thrift, and antique shop in SLC, before hitting this one. And while shopping those other stores, their owners did their best to dissuade me from going to Decades, stating that they, (Decades), were rude and gave horrible service. Being the curious shopper that I am, I ventured over there to see for myself what all the hubbub was about. Boy, were THEY wrong!
When I walked in the door, I was kindly greeted by the employee. And was allowed to shop without any interruptions. I was astounded by the enormous selection of vintage clothing.....at great prices!!!! There were bargains galore.
I was very careful not to attempt to ask to try on any of the clothing labeled, "ANTIQUE," since they request the customers not to, on many signs throughout the store. Rightly so, because those items were very delicate and very, very old. One rip and the dress is toast. Many people don't understand that.
Great experience! I loved it more than Cats! I will go again and again!
- Pros: Best seslection in SLC!
- Cons: Not enough hours in the day to fully shop it!
