great little place

I first tried Koko Kitchen about 12 years ago, after getting a rice bowl at one of the Twilight Series concerts at the Gallivan Center. I was so impressed, I grabbed a menu and stopped in the next chance I got. I have also had them do sushi platters for a couple of parties I have had. I don't think they advertise that they do that, but just ask and you will not be sorry. The platters they have done for me have been absolutely beautiful, and very impressive. They serve them on beautiful japanese platters for a small deposit which they return to you when you return the platters. Anyway, can't say enough - I work downtown and stop in for lunch ocassionally - usually get the teriyaki bowl and an order of edamame. Great little unique Japanese take-out place that is very different for SLC. Try it if you are tired of the ordinary.

Pretty good

I ordered the ebi udon and teriyaki chicken. Both were reasonably priced and had a good flavor. The chicken was thigh meat with skin and little bits of fat still clinging to the meat, so I had to scrape that off. My friend prefers Kyoto's teriyaki chicken, but it is more expensive.

Small and quiet!

unlike the other places down town this place goes for quality rather than decor! Don't get me wrong, it's cute and quiet inside! The food was great! I got the Miso soup as everyone recommends! DELICIOUS!

We also had 4 rolls for two of us, we each ended up with 5 pieces to go! good size rolls! The price is par with other places! I like how it's not crowded and fake and your food is ready in minutes!

Can't wait to go back and try the teryaki bowls!

• Pros: Great MISO SOUP! Friendly service!
• Cons: Little cold in the step down area.

Authentic Japanese Homestyle Cooking

Pretty much all restaurants that claim to be Japanese are lying, they're mostly just sushi-bars. However, Koko Kitchen is one of the few restaurants in Salt Lake that offer a wide variety of Japanese homestyle cooking. I highly recommend the Chicken-Katsu bowl (breaded and fried chicken), and/or the Salmon Roll if you are on a budget.

I've tried many Japanese restaurants in Salt Lake City. This place is the best so far. The foods they serve are very close to real Japanese food.

Terrific Japanese

I've had Koko Kitchen's teriyaki and several different sushi rolls, and I've never been disappointed.

Not what I was expecting - higher prices and little variety

I had been recommended to go to Koko's for quite a while - as I eat out about 6x a week and usually sushi 2x a week.

I went on a saturday around noon so there would be minimal lines - we did find a seat quickly in the "back" at the sushi bar.

I took a look at the menu and it had a limited variety of rolls and had the regular nigiri (nothing unusual). I was hoping - well....maybe a limited variety but probably great at what they do have....not so much.

The rolls were average for flavor - nothing above the usual. The Poky Dynamite was rather spicy and also they did not have "light/sushi soy" other than in to go packets.

I would say the rolls were average with slightly higher than average prices - all while not having a higher price atmosphere.

All in all - it's ok but don't settle for ok when there are a lot of good sushi places downtown with a much better value.

RACIAL HARASSMENT EXPERIENCED!

Experienced racial harassment there! This place is ridiculous! This blond server boy made fun of my "Japanese accent" and wanted me to repeat a certain word over and over again and was actually , yes, actually LAUGHING AT ME when he did so.I was born and raised in Salt Lake and NOBODY had EVER made fun of my "accent".

Called at least 10 times trying to make a formal customer complaint to the manager or owner but they were NEVER available and HING UP on me.Server and people answering the phone were rude. This place is also very dirty- just look at the dirty floor with used plates and chopsticks all over and you will know.

Making fun of a "Japanese accent" in a Japanese restaurant? They should know better than that!! WILL NEVER GO BACK AGAIN and

have already told all my friends not to go again!

Great Place

I came here after my friend recomending me to this place. Being from japan, and being a chef, it's as authentic as Utah can be. There is this idiot who left a review here as follow.

....I ordered a Philly roll, which was overpriced for what I received, in my opinion. I am from CA and I think I am spoiled living so near the ocean and the quaility and affordability of the sushi there. There was a lot of extra herbs that made my sushi plate pretty, but upon eating a couple on accident, sure didn't add to the flavor. My teryaki bowl, however, was quite good. I definitely recommend that.

Being from California doesnt mean anything. I worked in California and used a frozen tuna from Vietnam. just because its by the ocean it means nothing. Most of all, how can you tell how fresh the fish is by eathing PHILLY ROLL. Smoked salmon cream cheese and avocado??? are you kidding me??

smoked salmon is fresh from the my freezer. NOT FROM THE WEST COAST OCEAN YOU IDIOT!!!

how dare you tell the reader that you know how fesh the fish is by eating cured salmon mixed with fatting avocado and creamcheese?? you probably don't even know how to eat sushi. dipp the roll in regular soy and let the rice soak up till it's too salty too eat???... shut up and stop writing meaningless reveiws!!

Learn the etiquette and techinque of EATING sushi and then maybe write reviews.

this place was a great place and had cheap authentice japanese noodle combination for $7.
