You call this Italian! This place is terrible. The sauce taste like it came froma can, the manicotti tasted frozen and the service while friendly is disinterested at best. If this is what you call italian, I will eat a frozen lasagna, which is probably what they serve. Never again. While this food may have been adequate around the dinner table at home, it is not worth any price in a restaurant, no matter how large the servings. Eat at Michaelanglo's instead, the best italian in the city.

We discovered Cannella's last March on my boyfriend's birthday. Since then we have returned at least five times with family and friends or just us. This place is wonderful; I feel like it's Salt Lake's best kept secret! The food is fabulous and the staff is incredibly friendly and outgoing. In fact, they remember us each time we come in, even if it's been a couple months. Our favorite dishes include the bruschetta, veal piccata, lasagna, manicotti, anything with meatballs, and the tira misu! They often have specials which are also delicious. Additionally, they have a great list of unique martinis that are an excellent start to your evening. In the warmer months they have some outdoor seating which is perfect after going to the Arts Festival, or any other downtown event. Try this place, you will not be disappointed! It is always our first choice of restaurants on a rare night out!
Pros: Wonderful food with excellent prices!

This is some of the *worst* Italian food in town. The one reviewer who called out the iceberg lettuce in the salads (who uses iceberg anymore?!?!) was spot-on. I've been there 3 times...the garlic bread is made with straight-up margarine (trans-fat, anyone?) and the manicotti is probably the worst I've ever had. I not only eat Italian food often but I'm a very good cook and I wouldn't take my worst enemy to Cannella's, as I'm afraid it would probably hurt my reputation! I hate to admit it, but OLIVE GARDEN is better than this! For better Italian fare, try Cucina Toscana (a little pricey but EXCELLENT), Michelangelo's (great homemade pastas) in Sugarhouse (if it's still open), Saltimbocca (same price range as Cannella's and ten times better) or Trio.
Cons: Bad location (no parking), disappointing and can-taste food

I've eaten at Cannella's several times and never been disappointed. Our last visit was during the Jazz festival when the place was packed. Our waitress couldn't have been more accommodating, keeping a sense of humor and seating us as fast as possible. We always look forward to returning to Cannella's. It's an authentic family restaurant with a welcoming staff.
Pros: friendly staff

I've eaten here three times and it's been about the same every time. The salads are made with straight-up iceberg lettuce and since they've done their remodel, the prices have gone up considerably.
Pros: Nice new patio area
Cons: Parking

We had our doubts when we arrived, the menu seemed small and, well. typical. After being told about some off menu specials we ordered Chicken Marsala and the Seafood Marinera. After some mix ups with the wrong salads we received our meals which were deceivingly large portions. The food has a real home cooked flavor, and definitely not typical. The seafood marinera had a ample amount of seafood. It seemed to be understaffed for the amount of people in the restaurant on a friday and this definitely showed in the timely delivery of drinks and the bill, which we received the wrong change. Other than the waitress problems the food was great and the atmosphere is perfect for dates, friends, or full families. This is a inexpensive place and is well worth the money.
Pros: Downtown
Cons: A little noisy

Cannella's has been around for the past 25 years of my life and yet this is the first time I have ever eaten there. Where have I been? I found the atmosphere cosy, the service was friendly and attentive, the food was delightful. I hesitate to post a review and share my new discovery with others, because I want to keep this place to myself. Based on the number of regulars that seemed to be eating there, that is probably a pipe dream. I had the chicken pesto and my husband had the rigatoni. Both were delicious. We will definitely be back to introduce ourselves to the regulars.

This was a great find while recently visiting Salt Lake. I would highly recommend their salmon with pasta special for dinner. It was excellent and it unbelievably inexpensive for the quality and large portions of food. I did manage to save room for dessert and coffee and it was well worth it. The tiramasu was excellent as was the espresso, very authentic. If anyone visting Salt Lake is looking for a cosy Italian restaurant, reminiscent of those in New York, Rhode Island or San Francisco this is the place you want to go. I will definately be coming back on my next visit.
Pros: Very Inexpensive, Excellent Food
Cons: , Small and cosy

This place has the best clam linguini I've ever tasted in the Salt Lake Valley. They wait staff is usually excellent and the rest of the menu is great. They offer "daily specials" which are my recommendation.
Pros: Taste, Inexpensive, Clam Linguini
Cons: lunch hour wait, location
