delectable for all three meals!

by timothygs at Citysearch

I waited to write a review until I had been to Sages for all three meals. Their menu is expansive and impressive. It all sounded so good it was hard to decide. It all was so much better than good. The Philly cheez sandwich was unreal. The Mountain for breakfast tasted amazing!

  • Pros: perfect meals to crave
  • Cons: more expensive with the organic ingredients but worth every penny

Great vegetarian food in SLC, even for a non-vegetarian

by amyoutfit at Citysearch

The guac -n-rock burger and vegetarian tacos are great. We are in town for skiing and family, and my vegetarian daughter and husband were sick of salads and vegetable side dishes, so we were delighted to come across this restaurant while trying to find the other place greek restaurant, which used to be in the same building. The food tasted great, the service was good and the sun shining in the sun room felt great after a day of skiing. We were extremely happy to find another vegetarian option in SLC, and still feel a warm glow from the great food.

Fresh Fresh Fresh!

by cupcakeyoga at Citysearch

My roomate and I ate at Sage on Saturday evening. She had been before, and as a vegetarian loves the place! I am mostly veg...and Sage lived up to many built up expectations. We had lettuce wraps as an appetizer; followed by the soba salad and the wilted spinach salad. My only complaint is that the tempeh was a bit too salty...but the rest of the soba salad soaked up the extra salt well. I left perfectly full; and feeling good about eating really good food! Enjoy

  • Pros: Great window seating and chill atmosphere...not too hippie
  • Cons: Menu could be more varied...more warm, savory dinner dishes

Eclectic Dining Experience

by LostinAusten at Citysearch

I really love this restaurant. Sometimes the quality of their food is unpredictable. For instance, their mushroom stroganoff is mediocre, but their carrot butter and vegetarian tacos are excellent. I've found that the best way to order food there is to ask the waiter what their favorite dish is. If I do that, I always end up with something fabulous!

The atmosphere is chic, but cute and comfortable. The location is very close to Trax, and they have ample room to tie up a bike. The prices are steep, but the food is worth it.

  • Pros: atmosphere, location, chocolate desserts
  • Cons: price, occassionally inconsistent food

I had to return the following night to try a few other menu choices!

by melaniepepper at Citysearch

I loved the menu choices and had to go back the following evening to try a few other items. The ambiance of a neighborhood restaurant was appealing and the staff was knowledgeable and friendly. The "made from scratch" freshness of the food was worth waiting for. It's refreshing to go to a restaurant where you don't feel rushed and have time to chat with your dinner companions.

  • Pros: Relaxing, friendly attitude of staff and other patrons was refreshing
  • Cons: Limited Parking but worth the walk!

Vegan friendly, nice atmosphere, supports local art, liberal.

by iluvmiso at Citysearch

I really like Sage's mostly due to their awesome menu. I love All-You-Can-Eat Pizza night on Tuesdays after 5 o'clock. I'm glad it's back!

It's not slow but it's not fast either - as far as service goes. Just be chill and patient and you'll be satisfied. The food is great and the staff is awesome.

  • Pros: Vegan friendly, decent price, fresh food.
  • Cons: Parking can be horrible at times.

Good place to check out

by nthprime at Citysearch

The food was unique to me. I enjoyed quite a bit. The food does seem a little bland. It also takes a while for the food to come out. I still recommend it for anyone who wants to try something new.

Some Cities Have a Myth...

by diffused at Citysearch

...and if you're vegan and in Salt Lake City that myth is, "Go to Sage's, it's good." It is not good, when I first went there maybe. It was exciting to have a vegan cafe in Salt Lake again, but their food has not really improved, it's still quite bland, and mostly uninspired. But they've managed to repeatedly jack up the prices making it more expensive than represented on this website, and much more expensive than the food is worth. Here's a good way of explaining it. I went to the Herbivore in San Francisco, a very expensive city. There I got two appetizers, two enterees, 2 drinks, and a shared dessert for around $35 (without tip) and at Sage's in little ol' SLC will cost you probably almost $50 + for that much food, with worst service, and a contrived atmosphere. It's just a rip off.

  • Pros: Vegan, Carrot Butter
  • Cons: Food Bland/Not Good, Expensive, "Hipsters"

Vegan food dressed up to imitate traditional American specialties.

by Robyn Galbos at Citysearch

The Scene
A tiny, comfortable restaurant with a handful of tables. The sun porch is light and airy with a mural painted to look like the sky on the ceiling.

The Food
Simple dishes made with fresh, quality ingredients. For a light meal, the warm spinach salad and the soup of the day are uncomplicated and good. The pesto over pasta is a fine choice if you want something heartier. The pasta is made from spelt--a cereal grain with a nutty flavor--giving it the look and texture of wheat pasta. The café makes efforts to present food as traditional-looking as possible. The Philly "cheesesteak" sandwich is filled with tasty al dente roasted vegetables--peppers, onions and beefy portobello mushrooms--topped with a "cheese" sauce made with yeast protein. The sauce tastes OK, but if you're used to eating cheese, you won't be fooled.
