I've been going to Red Butte Cafe regularly for 10 years now and I think it's a great place to grab some fresh food for a reasonable price. My favorites items on the menu are the sandwiches (hot open-faced herb roasted sirloin) and salads (I can't decide on my favorite- they are all delicious) rather than the entres, so I generally leave there spending $20 to $25 bucks for 2 people, yest I'm rarely able to finish my plate. I also think those items (lighter side vs full entrees) is where their menu y really shines with innovatio and amazing flavors. I HIGHLY recommend the house pasta as your side dish. Sure the fresh fruit or green salad is good, but the pasta noodles are made on site daily, just as fresh as all of their other ingredients they use. I also have to mention their decadent deserts. They have something for everyone, but if you like chocolate you will be especially pleased. In 10 years, my experiences have always been good. Yes service can slow down a bit when the place get's hopping, but nothing unsatisfactory, just normal. I've never been left wanting, regarding the service or the food.

Pros: Ambience, freshness, food quality, desert!

Cons: Ambient noise can be a problem if you are their with elderly and booths aren't available

I expected more than what I got!! Pick somewhere else to dine in the Foothill Villiage. Limited and tastless entres. My food was cold when it was brought out,and the srvice was terribly slow. This is one place that is crowded but I dont know why it would be! Skip this place for sure!!

Pros: Nice interrior thats it!!

Cons: Everything else! Horrible.

I read a review right here on citysearch and was amazed by the recommendation about the red trout salad. So a buch of us decided to try out this place on a saturday. The place is unpretentious - located just below a busy TGIF overlooking a mall parking lot. But as you enter you see smiling staff faces and yummy bakery items displayed upfront. seating was prompt and service was exzcellent - we were served by a smart and helpful person- who seemed happy with the menu and thats always a good sign. the place was full and typically boisterous - we like that kind of a place when we go in large groups. And I did have the red trout salad - it was quite special and uniquely preapred with the right amount of greens, sauces and nuts. A friend tried the southwest chicken salad and she praised it as well. for dessert we had their orange chocalte cake and it was decidedly the best one we had tried in some time. overall, its highly recommended that you visit this place if you are from this town or from out fo town - you will have a good time here. the next time I go up there I will sample their wine menu and write back soon. parking is never a problem - in the summer months they have outdoor patio seating - the only downside being it looks out into a busy mall parking lot - not a very pleasant sight - although note that the patio is one level above the street level - that way you wont get directly pounded by exhaust from slow vehicles in the lot.

Enjoyable food, I liked the French Onion Soup. It's endured quite a while with good atmosphere and food. Parking can be tough.

Pros: ambience

Cons: parking

The red trout salad may be the best thing I ever ate. I have gone from SLC Airport to Elko, NV by way of the Red Butte, at least 45 miles out of the way, for a red trout salad. My truck is programmed, when it comes down the mountain, it goes directly to the Red Butte Grille, like a cruise control for the steering.

Cons: Don't realy open unti

The lunch specials are good enough, but the thing here is the dessert; especially, the Chocolate Aztec Tart. And, where else can you get Marjolaine cake? OK, the Aztec Tart is not as good as Pinon Mkt.'s Chocolate Silk, but you can get the Aztec Tart on any day as opposed to Pinon's; on rare ocassion, maybe yes, maybe no, or special order. NOTE: The Best desserts and chocolates in UTAH are to be found at the Stein Eriksen Lodge in Park City.

Pros: Chocolate Aztec, Marjolaine

Cons: , View

This place seems less popular than it should. Possibly people's expectations are not met- designated as a 'cafe' I'ld expect nice little sandwiches, good desserts, yummy salads, and other such dishes, which this place does VERY well. A creative menu with neat ingredients- standard fare with flair, much like Citrus Grill, althought the latter is more complete. What I like about Red butt is its changing menu- refreshing. The ambiance here is great. And abhorring crowds as I do, commenting on seating during prime time... I'll come here for a late lunch or early dinner. The patio is a nice change, as many of the restaurants along Foothill don't have outdoor areas. Eating outside is one of the things that make SLC great! They have good beers on tap. The best approach: get a salad (any of them are fantastic) followed by dessert (the best in town).

The only good time to go here is when it is not busy....we have been going here once a week for years, usually on Sunday afternoon, and have never been disappointed. Well, we made the mistake of going on a friday at 6 pm and it was awful---we were seated right away, the waitress took our order, but it never came, and I mean NEVER...4 other couples were seated after us and they were done eating by the time we asked where our two salads were....they lost our order!. THe waitress never came back to tell us anything---she simply avoided us and we just sat ther looking stupid. We will never go back.

Cons: service

We feel there is room for improvement. Service during the lunch hour was abnormally slow--25 minutes. The server was not very attentive to refill drinks in the meantime. Onathe grilled SW chicken sandwich, the cheese-onion bun would have been better heated. The accompanying pasta salad was "stale". The seafood chowder was very nicely spiced but the italian pasta salad was dry and lackluster; it would have benefitted from more vinagrette dressing. We often frequent the Desert Edge which has a similar menu and I feel the Desert Edge does a better job of the food, although I prefer the somewhat "quieter" (all is relative) atmosphere at Red Butte. Anything the owners could do to mute the noise level at either location would be appreciated. Is there no such thing as a quiet lunch anymore?

Pros: Food, Ambience

Cons: Parking, Price

The only place in SLC where you can get yourself one heckuva grilled catfish sandwich. To top it off, it's EXCELLENT! The burger is awesome too, as is the fiery chicken sandwich with chile peppers. Entrees like the salmon are beautifully prepared and tastey. There's a definitive Southwest flare to everything here and many of the dishes are can't miss. Save plenty of room for dessert! Check out the array of worthy candidates as you walk into the restaurant. Overall, an able and willing place where the food has serious soul!

Pros: nothing quite like it

Cons: parking can be hassle
