A Good Experience

by penr0d at Citysearch

I had my CV axles replaced, which cost me $400 total. They were fast and courteous. Of interest, I was there during closing time, and they were busy moving a car into the garage so that its owner (who hadn't paid a bill) couldn't come and take it during the night. It was kind of a weird that they were doing it, but didn't affect my experience.

  • Pros: Fast, Courteous, Accurate quote
  • Cons: Slightly expensive

Fabulous place!

by pbrussard at Citysearch

Like many people have commented, I am a single woman who has found it hard to find people who won't rip me off. Mike is always fair, and I trust him and I trust the work. Fantastic.

  • Pros: Trustworthy mechanics
  • Cons: None that I've found

Honest and Hard Working Mechanic - Best in Salt Lake!

by BillSLC at Citysearch

Mike Slaugh has been there for me through thick and thin. I can always count on him to make the right repairs and avoid the unnecessary ones.

Always kind, always courteous, the work is guaranteed. Mike absolutely won't talk down to you or try to get you to spend money on services you don't need. If you have a problem with some work that's been done, just let him know and he'll make it right.

If Mike can't get a job done for whatever reason, he will recommend another mechanic who he trusts instead of stringing you along for weeks.

I can't believe the bad reviews I have read on this site as I have never had anything but a positive painless experience with Mike. I once told him that I appreciated his honesty and excellent customer service and he simply responded by saying "That's the only way we could deserve your business."

If you need work done, Mike's shop is the place to go. And remember, even if your car won't start, there's a good chance you can roll it downhill to the convenient location.

  • Pros: Honest, convenient location, fair prices.
  • Cons: Not open on weekends

The Best

by cynthialeah at Citysearch

I have been to dozens of mechanics in my life. As a single woman, I have been 'taken for a ride' by many of them. That all ended when I discovered Slaugh's approximately 12 years ago. They have always exceeded my expectations with quality workmanship, fair pricing, and prompt service. A few years ago, I moved a significant distance away from Slaugh's. Because of this, I took my car to a local mechanic. They failed to accurately diagnose, and therefore, repair my vehicle. I took it to Slaugh's and the problem is fixed. I learned a valuable lesson. Slaugh's expertise is worth the drive. I'll never go anywhere else again.

  • Pros: Honest, Fair Prices, Prompt
  • Cons: None

3 brakes replaced instead of 4

by Mulanchuan at Citysearch

I failed inspection because of the handbrake and Slaugh's told me I needed new brakes all around so $300+ later and new brakes I went back and failed inspection again. So I went back, he adjusted the handbrake again and I passed. Well driving back from Arizona I hear a terrible noise when I brake but I can't stop in the middle of nowhere. I get home and a friend looks at the brake and it has an old brake shoe on it not a new one. He checked all the others and they were new. SO I got 3 new brakes and a ruined rotor. The bolt for the rotor snapped off with little force - maybe this was why he didn't change the shoe - either way I am not impressed.

  • Pros: Fast service, the owner is committed to customer satisfaction he gave me afree bulb on the second return
  • Cons: The owner can't quality check the mechanics work and the mechanic can't be trusted to do it right

Not honest, overpriced . Stay away !!!!

by mail4rum at Citysearch

what I can say about Slaugh's is they dont know how to repair properly, and not being honest with the customer. I was treated horribly and will never come back again.

Here's my story:

my car would not start, and after some diagnostic which cost over 100 bucks (little expensive here, and they did not warn me of this diagnostic fee at the beginning), the guyz said I needed a new fuel bump.and total cost for my repair was about $ 600.

But the day after I got my car back with the new fuel bump, the engine stopped working while I was driving. and it would not start again. this time I had it pulled to my mechanic friend. He told me that I got problems with electrical wires to the fuel bump, and the bump on my car model rarely failed.

So it turned out that the guyz at Slaughs fixed the wrong part; I felt like I was robbed !!!

also, somehow my temperature gauge also broke (it was good before I had my car in the shop) and I lost a locking plier.

this was my first experience with Slaugh's and it was a total disaster. very unhappy.

  • Pros: none
  • Cons: unhonest, doing terrible job, stealing tools from customer

Not your typical mechanic

by lmevans79 at Citysearch

After reading great reviews about Slaugh's Car Care, I decided to cancel my appointment at the Honda dealership and take my car here. I'm SO glad I did. When I walked in, Mike greeted me and was friendly. He got my car in the garage immediately. I didn't feel I was taken advantage of at all. He told me my problem was a simple fix, and he fixed it without charging me an arm and a leg! It's obvious that Mike aims to earn repeat customers, and I am happy to say that I've found a mechanic to trust! Give him your business - you'll be glad you did.

  • Pros: Friendly, Fast, Fair

Fabulous Service!

by Tracey333 at Citysearch

I am absolutely PHOBIC of mechanics, and this has been my best experience yet. As a woman who does not know much about cars, I have been A) talked down to and treated like I am an idiot and B) mislead and conned by mechanics in the past. Mike is extremely friendly, respectful, punctual, honest, and GREAT at what he does. I highly recommend Slaugh's to anyone for anything!

  • Pros: honesty, friendliness, car always ready on time
  • Cons: can't think of a one!

Worth every penny!

by Amazingservice at Citysearch

Slaugh's isTHE BEST !!!!! I have a 1999 4-Runner that 4 other mechanics and 3 different auto shops could not get to pass emissions because of a check engine light. Hundreds of dollars wasted, and a ticket later. I found Slaugh's Car-care on City Search. I called Mike, explained the problem and discussed price. Although, I was concerned about paying $110 for diagnosis, Mike assured me and was confident about his services. I made my appointment and just like he said he would he found the problem and fixed it all in the same day. And it was something so simple! He even called the following week to make sure that my light had not come back on!! I have never had such honnest reliable service. The cost of this kind service is underestimated I would have paid more. I just wish I would have gone to him first!!! Oh, all the money I could have saved! I will never go any where else.

  • Pros: Trustworthy service and womens magazines in waiting area! (Big A+++)
  • Cons: NONE!

I've found a great new car mechanic!

by traveldivadi at Citysearch

Slaugh's was personable, very reasonable and I was very satified. They found the problem with my temperature issues and found it was a plugged hose. They cleaned that gratis (a dealership never would have!) and fixed my window quickly and very reasonably.

They have a new loyal customer!

  • Pros: 2 thumbs up

Only place I use in SLC.

by tara511 at Citysearch

The service is always friendly and quick. The price is affordable. The job always gets done right and the staff doesn't try to get you for repairs you don't actually need.

  • Pros: Friendly service.
  • Cons: Parts are maybe a little expensive (but labor not so much).
