Wonderful specialty shops, good restaurants

by jane2008

I was reading the people before me who reviewed this mall and I had to put my two cents in. The mall is undergoing a massive amount of renovations and was recently bought out by another company and so getting everything running smoothly is the problem that they are running in to. They have security on side 24-7 and you may have visited on a day when they only had an officer or two on post. And the security guards can not be every where all at once. All it would take, if there were two on duty, is someone having a problem with there vehicle, and a store needing a guard to keep an eye on an individual and that would be all the man power available for the time it takes those incidents to be resolved. The shooting last year was an unfortunate event and the families are still grieving, so dont sit there and say that the cops murdered a guy. They shot him because he walked in to Trolley Square, armed, with the intention of killing who ever got in his way. And, unfortunately, five people died, six including the gunman. Yes, it caused some stores to leave, but most have left temporarily from what I have heard. Saying that they would start there lease back up as soon as the construction inside of the mall was completed.

  • Pros: Hardly any teens...which is good for the more mature crowd
  • Cons: Parking is a nightmare while the old garage is being torn down and the new ones built

I walked through the entire mall and visited Williams-Sonoma.

I'm not inclined to write a review on a shopping mall, but while looking up directions the review by the character who said the police had murdered a guy there aggravated me more than I'm going to say. The mall itself is a good idea, but looks as though it's suffering a store and cash shortage that's keeping it from fulfillment of potential.I visited on Saturday, Jan.12, 2008 from about noon until 2pm - In that period I saw absolutely no cops in the mall or the stores of any building, nor in the parking lot. That bothered me in that, sadly, I'd have appreciated big, gun-toting police wandering about for my peace of mind in this day and age. All that said, the mall & especially the restaurants are still worth a visit.

  • Pros: The old building, iron work, etc. are nice
  • Cons: Too few stores and incomplete renovations throughout the mall area.

A great place to go to get shot

by kkodey

You might get shot if you go to this mall. It's a scary, dangerous place. Cops carry guns here, and are not afraid to use them. They murdered a guy here last year.

There's a vintage vibe at this trolley barn turned high-class shopping area.

by Contributor

The Scene
Trolley Square is a historic mission-style collection of vintage trolley-car barns that were remodeled into a marketplace filled with about 80 retailers. The four red-brick barns, which housed a turn-of-the-century trolley system, were built in 1908 by railroad magnate E.H. Harriman. Trolley Square is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Antique lighting fixtures from the old downtown streets illuminate the square. Architectural features from nearby historic mansions highlight the square's interior design. Free historic walking tours are available.

The Goods
Visitors flock to the Pottery Barn, Restoration Hardware, Banana Republic, Williams-Sonoma, Talbot's and Ann Taylor. Locals enjoy Bastille, Haroon's and the Basket Loft. Popular restaurants include Desert Edge Pub, Green Street Social Club, Rodizio Grill, Tony Roma's and the Hard Rock Cafe.

Nice stores without the mall feel

by robyngalbos_citysearch

Trolley Square has such a unique and pleasant atmosphere--I choose this place over the mall any day. There are a few little boutiques left, but many of them have given way to the catalog heavyweights like Pottery Barn and Restoration Hardware. But the new retailers have injected new life to this place and it's still a great place to shop.

  • Pros: Variety
  • Cons: Crowded parking lot
