The 171 is amazing.

A must go for delicious Asian fare. Make your own spring rolls, dip them in the peanut sauce, and sit back and smile as your mouth goes to a happy place. Man, I miss this place since moving back East. Order an extra skewer of fried Tofu, and split your platter! So delicious! My friends and I would tell the wait staff if we were on lunch hour, and were always out in time to head back to work. Good times!
- Pros: Try the vegetarian menu
- Cons: Can't remember any. The food was too darn good.
Worst Service
by maria_c
The service at this restaraunt was terrible. The restaurant was pretty much empty and it took them 20 minutes to get out out appetizers. Then they brought us the wrong the beer and it went downhill from there. There were 5 tables occupied in the entire restaurant. They served my husband his entree and did not bring mine out for 15 minutes. We said something to the waitress and another woman appeared who we had not seen before and said it was her fault - ??? She proceeded to tell us the restaurant was very busy and that was the delay for the food and offered to remake my husbands now cold entree. No one refilled our water until we asked for the check nor did they ask if we wanted another drink or check on our meal.
- Pros: NONE
- Cons: SERVICE
Hmmm.

Just went here for the first time the other night. The place was clean, and inviting. The service was pretty slow. I didn't get a refill on my drink ever, but we did get our waters refilled once or twice. The waitress gave us our check and said she'd be our cashier, but never came back. The prices were reasonable to me, and the food fairly good. What I was disappointed in was their vegetarian menu. Being a vegetarian I was quite excited to see a whole section devoted to vegetarianism. Unfortunately quite a few of the dishes (mainly the soups) weren't vegetarian at all! Every soup was made either with chicken or beef stock. At least they wrote it on the menu though, right? My husband loved it though. We'll probably go back, but not often that's for sure.
- Pros: big vegetarian menu, clean, friendly
- Cons: slow service

halcyon days

once upon a time Cafe Trang was my favorite place to eat, those days however are long gone. when they changed their menu at in 2005/06 they really got it wrong. as many other reviews have stated they are a VIETNAMESE restaurant and should have stuck to what made them good, regrettably they did not. also they raised the prices on most menu items by about $1.00 except the vegetarian items which rose by $3-4.00, being a vegetarian this was the final straw, i took one look at the "new" menu, stood up, walked out, and have never gone back. i hope some other restaurant opens and takes their place. and to the old Trang, we all miss you, we know you won't come back but please consider it, plus haven't you noticed a steady decline in business? you can even see it from the outside.
- Pros: Trang was once one of the best places to eat in salt lake.
- Cons: Trang is no longer one of the best places to eat in salt lake
Slow wait service, Burned food at downtown location
by utahbuyer
Some 2 years ago, a trusted friend recommended CafeTrang and because I enjoy and love trying Asian restaurants, I went expecting great food. What I got was slow service (and with only some 3 tables of people present) and 2/3 of my plate selections, burned. The spring roll was black burned on half the portion and the rice was also burned. I tried a very small portion of the rice that didn't appear as burned, and it had an "old" , "been in the restaurant too long" taste. I returned my meal, and left. NOT recommended.
- Pros: ????
- Cons: Most of my food was burned, bleah
Amaizing asian food
by the_booner
This was my dad's favorite restaurant when he worked downtown. Now it is one of mine. The selection is great. There is always something new to try and I am always amaized when I try a new dish. The food is excellent. The only drawback is the need to drive there. I highly recommend it. If you like asian food, you will love Cafe Trang.
- Pros: Food, Ambiance, Service
- Cons: location
Great food, not-so-great service
by begunwithaletter
I love the food at Cafe Trang, but their service isn't all that awesome, even on very slow nights. The food makes up for it most of the time, though! The General Tso's is my boyfriend's favorite, the caramel pork and chicken lettuce wraps with plum sauce are tasty as well. The hot and sour soup is quite spicy, and very flavorful. The green curry was too spicy, but bland at the same time... it's the only dish I've ever been disappointed in. I have had problems with language barriers on several visits, and the waitresses aren't very familiar with the new menus, so don't rely on suggestions. Don't expect to get prompt refills on drinks, the waitresses disappear after your food has been brought out.
- Pros: Good-sized portions
- Cons: Inattentive wait staff
Stick with Vietnamese
by retmission
This is an old favorite of mine. I have always liked the flavors of the Vietnamese food and even some of the Chinese food here. They have however changed their menu. They offer a lot less Vietnamese food and now they think they know how to make Thai food. I ordered a Curry out of curiousity it was bad. The Pho noodles I had with it were good as usual. They should stay with what they do best/ By the way I tasted their Pad Thai awful.
- Pros: Vietnamese food, Chinese Food, Spring Rolls
- Cons: Bad Thai food, smaller menu, more bad Thai food
