Food that's only outclassed by the amazing service
by Supercords
Bit of a wait to be seated on Saturday night, but I can see why. Food and service are excellent. The waiters use more of a zone defense as opposed to the usual man to man, so you'll have a series of gentleman stopping by the table to make sure everything is ok. I appreciated the carafe of water, as I drink a lot with my meal. Food was delivered lightning fast. Everything was hot. We asked for an extra soup spoon, and they dropped off an extra bowl of soup--no charge. Everyone was cheerful and friendly. Portions are large. Flavors will linger well after your meal.
You can't ask for anything more.
- Pros: Food, Service, Variety
- Cons: Not in my neighborhood :(
Great place for Indian food!

Great service and great food. The wait to get a table was 20 minutes, but it was a weekend evening so of course it was busy. Once we sat down the service was prompt and our appetizers were out in no time. Loved the food and loved the service.
- Pros: Service
Incredible service, delicious and nutricious Indian food, great vegetarian options, and at a very reasonable price

If you want to try something different, delicious, and at a very reasonable price, this is one of the best kept secrets in Salt Lake County. If you live in the Avenues or Downtown, I really think you will be very happy with a short drive to Sandy.
My wife, daughter, and I have visited Royal India twice and both times we were treated like, well, "Royalty". The people who work there are charming and extremely responsive. Royal India has adequate seating for large parties and for couples.
The servings are good sized and the food and wine menus has a wide variety of options. We have all tried different appetizers and entrees (and then tried each others choices)...and the flavor and texture of the food is top notch.
My wife and I are vegetarians and we both felt we had a lot of menu options to choose from. The inside of the restaurant is very clean, with beautiful murals from India on the walls. The tables are nice, painting and lighting are very nice...so don't be fooled that this is located in a strip mall.
This is a hidden gem...and it is now one of our favorite restaurants.
- Pros: Delicious and exotic food, INCREDIBLE service, and at a very reasonable price
- Cons: It's located in a strip mall, but don't be fooled...this restaurant is worth it!
Best Indian Restaurant in Utah.

In England, where I grew up, Indian restaurants are only slightly less in abundance than fish-and-chip shops, so I have loved it almost from birth. Having eaten Indian food in most large US cities, and many countries around the world, I have to say that Royal India is one of my all-time favorites. From the outside it is a most unlikely candidate for fine eating?it?s in a small strip-mall in Sandy with an unassuming frontage?but once you are inside you are immediately struck by four things: the aroma, the ambience, the friendly staff and the fact that it?s nearly always crowded. (On Friday or Saturday prepare for a wait). Everything is delicious, a total flavour shock. If you are new to Indian food and afraid of spicy, ask for it mild or medium. Try the Palak Soup, the mixed appetizers, Chicken Tikka Masala, Lamb Saag, Garlic Naan, Chutneys and Pickles and you wont be disappointed. The rice itself is so delicious, it could be a meal on its own. Yes, it may be a long drive for some, but believe me, its the best in Utah, if not the US.
- Pros: Great ambience and super staff
Exceptional Indian Cuisine!
by lostimmortal
Before I tried Royal India I was under the impression that the poor service I had received at other Indian restaurants in the valley was "normal". Now I tell everyone I'm spoiled. The other restaurants in the valley pale in comparison to Royal India. The service there is wonderful! Everyone is very friendly and they never make you feel rushed. Lovely atmosphere.
The food is amazing. I've been a curry lover since I was a kid, but it wasn't until I had Royal India's curry that I began craving it. Their appetizers are a wonderful treat and I find myself enjoying them just as much as the main course. Their chutney is always delicious - always. And their rice is spectacular. I have tried to re-create it at home with no luck. When I have rice at other Indian restaurants it seems extremely bland and uninspired.
It may be a bit out of the way, but Royal India is WELL worth the drive. The food is very reasonably priced and you will find that you get more than enough food for what you pay. I always have left-overs and to tell the truth, the curry is often even better the next day! If you're a lover of great Indian food or you want to try it for the first time, I highly recommend making a trip to Royal India. You won't regret it!
- Pros: Food, Service, Ambience, Parking
- Cons: Location
Maybe the best in Utah
by petershirley
This place is excellent! Order off the South Indian part of the menu.
They have a decent wine list. I never would have guessed that wine went with Indian food, but it can!
- Pros: Food
- Cons: Location (too far South!)
Most impressive

Top tandoori in the state with a range of whole Indian cuisine no other restaurant offers.
Best biriyani.
Garlic naan is excellent
Lamb saag isn't much to look at but the complex flavors knock your socks off and curl your toes in pleasure.
- Pros: Top notch flavors
- Cons: a bit out of the way
Great Indian Food

We ordered several different dishes, chicken kourma, chicken tikka, shrimp vindaloo and much more and it was all wonderful. The only thing I was not crazy about was the raitha, I've had much better.
- Pros: great food, fast service
- Cons: atmosphere
