for some reason this place has a good reputation. can't think why though. every time i've been here the service has been dismal and the food mediocre at best.
Pros: none

The rolls really are the best. If you are looking to just eat rolls, or to take rolls home then I would recommend this place. I really tried to try the food but after 35 minutes I finally had to ask the hostess if I needed to order at the counter because no one came by to help us. The waiter came by and could not suggest anything but sandwiches and pie and had not tried anything on the menu that I was concerned about. I ordered a hamburger and my date ordered a sandwich and both were pretty bad, and they took a long time to prepare. When it came time for dessert the waiter talked about pies quite a bit so I tried one and it tasted like it was out of a grocery store. I will go back to give it another chance but the first time was a poor experience.
Pros: Rolls
Cons: Everything else

We went on a Sunday morning and were sat right away. However, we had to wait over 30 minutes to get our food and all the people around us had to wait at least that long. When our food was brought out they left off a portion and it was never delivered. The food we did receive was not very good and definately not worth the wait.
Pros: None
Cons: Service and food

I had heard these chefs specialize in breakfast. The food is not good. I gave them a try for lunch a while later. They should sell this property and retire. An International House of Pancakes would do much better in this location. This Kitchen is out of style and low quality. It has been there too long with no inovation.

Used to live in Salt Lake City and heard that Johanna's was a good place for breakfast. Left seven years ago, and tried it today (2/24/07) with my ten year old son. His giant cinnamon roll was good. However, my pancakes were ever so average. Tasted like Bisquick! Usually "homey" places can do a pretty good job with something as basic as pancakes, but Johanna's cakes are subpar. Ate 'em just because I was brought up in the Midwest where you eat everything you ordered. Definitely would not return. Should have went to Blue Plate like my son had suggested.

Sorry, I was very disappointed in Johanna's. My girlfriend wanted to take me out for a special birthday breakfast. We decided to try Johanna's for Sunday brunch. We were seated in a room where they had a TV broadcasting a sports event (I am not a sports fan!). The atmosphere of the place is old and not so clean. The food was unremarkable; very plain and ordinary. The service likewise.
Pros: Nothing
Cons: Ambience, Food, Clientele

I remember going to Johanna's Kitchen frequently as a child and always ordering the teddy bear pancakes and always loved it. I continue to go there now as a young adult for breakfast and still love the food. The servers are a little young and slow but its tolerable for the delicious breakfast.
Pros: home made, variety menu, SCONES
Cons: slow service, smaller portions
