Best Pokie/Sushi in Salt Lake City
by mogules at Citysearch
We travel to Alta every year to Ski usually in April because we like Spring Skiing. Mike (the head Sushi Chef) is superb and very hospitable. He has worked in many areas of the world and it shows. His Pokie is fantastic. I've had Sushi in San Francsco and only Ace Washbi's come close. If your in the Midvale area check this place out it's the best and should make the Top the List. My kids also love this place and they are in their teens.
- Pros: Mike and Bernardo are the best Sushi Chefs in Town
- Cons: Not being able to go there more often
About as good as it gets
by sanchez867 at Citysearch
I was seated quickly, my food was amazing, the chef knows what he's doing and also is very personable. My Asahi beer was fairly pricey, which was fine, and they have a poor sake selection, but the portions are extremely large for a sushi bar, and with the quality of fish being the way it was, I was very happy about that. They also have more unique rolls than most places in Salt Lake. I have eaten sushi all over the place around the country, and this place competes with the best of them. Try it out, I'll be going back very soon.
- Pros: Quick seating, awesome chef, great fish
- Cons: none
Best Sushi Around

My friends and I were looking for a place to eat and happened to stop by Suehiro. We were seated the moment we walked in, our server was attentive and could answer all of our questions about the sushi. The food was delicious and all of us left happy and stuffed. I would highly recommend trying it out, especially for anyone in search of good sushi and a nice atmosphere.
- Pros: Example: best croissants in town
- Cons: What are the drawbacks?
Amazing Sushi

I grew up in Utah, but left about 10 years ago. I lived in California the past couple years and returned to Utah about 6 months ago. Since then I've been looking for a good Sushi restaurant. It's been nearly impossible to find a Sushi restaurant in Utah that has GOOD sushi. Suehiro does. I'm told that they fly their fish in from Hawaii and you can definitely tell. The guys at the Sushi bar are awesome to talk to and definitely entertaining while you eat. The food in general is amazing. I have spent a lot of time looking for a good place to get Japanese food and I finally found one. I would highly recommend Suehiro. The servers were nice and the food was amazing. I will definitely be going back.
Good food, poor service
by Espalda at Citysearch
The food was great, but we sat down, waited 30 minutes for our order to be taken, then took a long time for our food to come, and after waiting another 20 minutes for the check we had to go to the hostess as we walked out. I think my water was only filled once. It may have been because of the large groups that were there, but it seemed like the staff just forgot about us.
- Pros: good food
- Cons: poor service
Service has declned

I took my family out tonight for our monthly dinner. It's always a special occasion and we value our time dining out together. We arrived early, just as service was beginning. We waited about 15 minutes for the miso soup. It was hot and tasty, but followed very closely by the salad. We had no time to enjoy the soup. After the salad we waited about 30 minutes for our entree. No one came to check on drinks for our party. The dinner was not quite hot when it arrived. Seemed as if it had been sitting under a warmer. Once the dinner was delivered, the server returned only once - after about 45 minutes. I had to stand up, leave my table and locate the server to ask for the check. It finally was returned by the hostess. We never saw the server again. What a disappointing experience. For the $20.00 or more per plate I expect attentive and prompt service. Tonight, Suehiro certainly did not deliver that. There are many choices in Salt Lake and my family will take our precious family time and dining dollars elsewhere.
Good Cuts - Fresh fish - Great Service

Having lived in Hawaii and visited Japan my wife and I have eaten a lot sushi at a lot of places. This is one of the best food wise. If you want slick ambiance, you probably want to go to happy sumo (service there is horrible), or Mikado (too expensive for little sushi of so so quality). If you want more a family feel, and GREAT quality food, this is the place to eat. The dinners are a bit better, but lunches are still good. I have always been treated well and had quick service, and have felt welcomed. Again the cuts are great - get the chirashi sushi! We found the secret to finding good Japanese restaurants - find where Japanese people eat. This is the only place I've been in Utah that I see a lot of Japanese people eating at.

My husband and I love Japanese food so we have been to a good number of Japanese restaurants here in the Salt Lake valley. We have eaten at Suehiro a number of times and it has been fine on other occasions. On Oct. 16 we had two young men staying with us, one from China and one from Texas. They wanted some Japanese food so we took them out to Suehiro for some good Japanese. However, our experience was terrible! The waitress (Jennifer I think) was nowhere to be found after bringing our drinks. She brought my elementary aged kids their meals first while the adults waited 15 more minutes for their food which was cold and greasy. I then had two kids sitting there waiting for the adults to eat, bored and unhappy. Then out came my meal (tonkatsu with no sauce). Two sushi rolls were next, 10 minutes later. I asked for the tonkatsu sauce then but the waitress never did come back. I had to get up and go back to the entrance to the kitchen to finally get some tonkatsu sauce. The waitress apologized saying it "slipped my mind" and offered to "throw your meal back into the deep fryer to heat it back up" Extremely tacky! The food kept coming out of the kitchen slowly but it was all cold by the time it arrived. The tempura was cold and greasy. The service was awful and the bill was over $90.00 for 6 (two were kids meals). Our waitress did take half the price of my meal off our bill but I was still I very dissapointed, embarrased and angry. I so wanted to show our guests a really good time with good food. We will not go to this restaurant again. Try Kyoto, it is always excellent!
- Pros: Nice entrance with a pretty fountain and japanese decor
- Cons: Cold, greasy food, bad service
Amazing sushi!

A friend introduced me to this small but amazing sushi restaurant. I frequent Happy Sumo in Provo and also the one in Salt Lake at the Gateway. My other favorite is Tsunami, but this place was delicious and so FRESH. The ingredients were the most fresh i've ever had at a sushi place. I would highly recommend the Fire Crystal Roll and the Rainbow Roll.
- Pros: The best sushi!
- Cons: Not the nicest ambience
One of the Best around!

Always fresh and delicious! It's in our area, therefore we go quite a bit, but I'd even recommend a little drive if necessary.
