Good food on the cheap.
We're new to SLC after moving from Chicago. Rubio's is NOT a fast food chain we were familiar with. We stumbled upon this while out shopping one day.
We were pleasantly surprised with the food. Not what we're used to for fast food.
We enjoyed it.
Best Lunch Break EVER.
The food is great, service is incredible, and the very BEST thing about this particular Rubio's is their very own "Polly."
Polly is one-of-a-kind and I don't know of any other fast food place who has someone like her. Polly works the lunch crowd every weekday. She clears tables, greats customers, brings the food to them, cleans up spills, restocks...and just does whatever has to be done. She's a bundle of energy and good will that is hard to come by these days.
Best of all, Polly remembers her regular customers, is always happy to see us, and just adds an extra little lift to our busy day. Whenever we (my husband and I) have a stressed day at work, we'll go for Rubio's Fresh Mex and our "Polly fix." She really makes a visit to this Rubio's special for us. I hope the people she works for realize how much their customers appreciate someone like this!
I don't even know her last name, but you'll know her when you see her.
The flavors of the Baja have a home north of the border with this fast-food fish-taco restaurant..
In Short
After years of traveling to Baja California and enjoying fish tacos at beachside stands, Ralph Rubio opened his first restaurant in San Diego in 1983, banking on the south-of-the-border favorite. Today, Rubio's are located throughout the Southwest serving tacos, burritos salads and more. Baja-style fish tacos are the specialty--beer-battered Alaskan Pollack, cabbage and salsa in a soft corn tortilla. Street tacos (carnitas, carne asada, chicken), quesadillas, nachos and taquitos are other popular options.
Great food, easy parking, fun atmosphere, and the prices are great!. Yesterday, after having found Rumbi closed (again), my son ran into Rubio (next door) to grab dinner for the two of us. We didn't expect much as it was happenstance that drew us in but we couldn't have been more wrong! What a surprise when we got home with our food! He ordered a chicken salad with creamy chipotle dressing for me that was the best tex mex salad I have EVER had from a take out restaurant. He ordered a rice bowl for himself and felt the same way! We are so happy to find a decent place to get fast (and healthy) food on sunday night. If you live uptown you know that it is quiet by 6pm and dead by 9pm on sunday night! The parking is easy, and according to my son, inside (where you can also eat in) is a very fun, roomy place. Can't wait to try more on the menu and I will definately recommend this to all my friends. A big thumbs up for Rubios Fresh Mexican Grill!
