Wanted Me To Get The Most Out Of My Car Without Paying More. Recently I had my car into see Jim at Tanner Transmissions located on State Street. I was having shuddering issues with my Buick Lesabre's transmission as well as some heavy vibration and a possible misfire in the engine. Initially I was incredibly skeptical, having yet to find a trustworthy mechanic that I believed had my best interest in mind. Jim immediately changed my expectations and my mind. Here are a few things I want to hi-light about Tanner Transmissions. One: Jim and I worked through my problem while riding in my vehicle. I've never had a mechanic who took the time to personally ride with me and talk through the issues. Two: Both of Jim and the crew down at Tanner State Street location attempts at fixing my car, the second one being the one that fixed the problem, was not that expensive. I got away for $500 with a shuddering transmission - that's unheard of. Most places would have told me I needed to go ahead and replace the torque converter or the whole transmission. Jim wanted me to get the most out of my car without paying more than necessary to fix it. That's why I had to bring it back twice that's why the four star rating. Three: In a nice way Jim ain't old for nothing'. He's the kind of mechanic that's seen it all and therefore can fix it all. I can say with total confidence that Jim and his crew down at Tanner Transmissions is the best mechanic I've ever dealt with. He will get my repeat business. Better than AAA. If you're your looking for competent, smart transmission diagnosis Tanner the place

Tanner Transmissions overcharge and do poor work. Tanner Transmissions took my car for a free diagnosis. After 3 days they still did not know anything. A week later they said they had to remove the transmission to diagnose which would cost money and would be taken off of the repair bill. They returned the transmission after 1 month and it costed me about $3000 to get my car back. It still was not fixed. They took it again for 2-3 weeks and returned it. They never return calls, treat customers poorly, and do terrible work. My transmission oil was black (never was changed) when it was supposed to be a fully rebuilt transmission. Things were also taken out of the car. Stay away!

Surprised I Fell This Good About Geting My Tranmission Fixed. Who would of ever thought that I would end putting a review on-line for a Transmission Shop? I mean lets face it.. "Oh boy my car went bad and now I have to spend several thousand dollars to get it fixed". Well that's exactly how I felt when I walked into Tanner Transmission on State Street in Salt Lake City. I have a 2005 Mazda it started to make this hideous noise as I was coming of the interstate. I took to my regular guy who fixes and does the maintenance on my Mazda. He said it was the transmission and told me the name of a couple of shops that he really trusted. I check around with some other transmission shops and I ended up choosing Tanner Transmissions because of them being around for close to 50 years in Salt Lake City plus I talked to neighbors and co-workers and ask if anyone had done business with Tanner before. One of the guys I work with had a clutch replaced by them and was as happy as you could be after you get your clutch replaced. So I take my car into the Salt Lake City store and they take it out for a ride with me, tell what they think the problem is. Turns out I didn

Expertise And Honesty At A Reasonable Price. Well, I am SHOCKED. Here I called a transmission shop, described what I thought I needed and got a reasonable price quote over the phone. Imagine my surprise, when I brought the car in, they looked it over and they told me I was wrong: my problem was much less than what I had described. Tanner Transmissions you have restored my faith in humanity. Really mean it. Old-fashioned humility, honesty and integrity and you Really know what you are doing. My 95 Ford F-150 4X4 is back hauling all my crap around.

Thanks,

Joe in West Valley

Done Business With Tanner 12 Years. In over twelve years I have done business with Tanner Transmission mostly at their State Street Store but at other locations also. I own a Lawn Care and Landscaping business and all my trucks get use pretty heavily. I have had numerous transmission rebuilt and have had Tanner install their ownership transmission which means if they break they will replace them for free, In twelve years I had only one go bad out of seven bought and that was just a leaky seal. Want a great transmission that you will never have to replace? Go to Tanner. Jim at United Organic Lawn

Tanner Transmission will rob you blind.. I had a horrible experience with Tanner Transmission.

I called them because my cars transmission was stuck in park. In order for them to find out what was wrong they stated that they had to open up the transmission. I was quoted that the price could range from $50 - $600 to diagnose, stating that they charged hourly for labor. That sounded fair enough. After a half-hour of labor they diagnosed the problem, and it would be a $3000 fix, and of course their diagnosis would cost the full $600. I became suspicious about the $600 for a half hour of work, so after I paid them I took my car to another shop (I wish I got paid $1200 an hour).

When I towed my car to the next shop, I was flabbergasted at what I found. They had taken my transmission and replaced it with another (the shop checked the vin # on the transmission did not match my car) and I used the word “replaced” loosely because they did not even bother to install the transmission, they just threw it in the trunk, oil leaking everywhere. Lastly, they even stole my car battery so I could not open my trunk.

If you’re having transmission problems I suggest you find another shop, good luck.

Dishonest. Jim Tanner quoted me $2500 to repair my Subaru when it was making an odd noise. I took it to my dealership for a second opinion and they fixed it for $40. That was two years ago and I have had no problems. I went there, against my better judgement, after having a previous bad experience with high price, slow service, and poor overall performance. I will not make that mistake again.

In Out And Not Too Much. Brought in my 06 Altima with a check engine light on. Found Tanner Transmissions online. I dropped off the car and they called me later to let me know I needed a crank sensor on my engine and this is what was causing my light to come on. When I picked up my car they gave me a report of the code. Again, can only speak for myself, but not a bad experience at all. If you live in Salt Lake City give Tanner a try.

Beefed Up My Transmission. The Beast is Back! I have a 2003 Durango 4x4 with a 5.9 liter motor. 3 inch lift, mud tires. Off road monster. Me and my friends were mudding and the transmission started smoking and wouldn't move any more. We took it to Tanner Transmissions. They beefed up the trans and put on a huge external cooler. Glad to have The Beast is Back .

They Power Flush It Each Year For Nothing. Bob at Tanner Transmissions asked me to do a review. I bought a 2001 Ford F150 4X4 transmission from Tanner 4 years ago with the Life Warranty they Power Flush it each year for nothing. Run's good and I expect to keep my truck for a long time so will find out how long this transmission will last. So far so good. Would recommend Tanner Transmissions to anybody that is looking for Transmission repair or maintenance in Salt Lake City, Ogden or any place in Utah.
