Our water glasses never got below half, and the staff worked together to make sure we had everything we needed. I had them put an ice cream cake in the freezer and they not only brought it out for me but brought it out with lit candles (we didn't bring any) sang played a cool drum. If I have ever had a perfect wait person Jeep (her name) was it! The food was fantastic and the bill was reasonable. I actually had anxiety in the night for fear we did not leave a big enough tip for how great they were to us. I also lost an earring and awoke to a message they had found it for me. When I return for my earring I plan to make up for that.
Love it!. Absolutely love this place. I'm surprised to see that anyone has rated it poorly, because of all the Thai places I've been this is by far my favorite. I just moved back to SLC from Southern California and was unable to find a Thai restaurant there that I enjoyed as much as Sawadee. I love their curries and their cashew stir fry is to die for.
Love it!. This restaurant has great food, generous portions and decent prices. I am a regular for lunch there. Definitely try it!
Love it!. I highly recommend the Panang Curry and the veg spring rolls, which were light and refreshing. Also the vegetables with peanut sauce is terrific. I haven't had a dish that I haven't like yet. Among the Thai available in SLC, I'd say this is the top.
Yummy sweet rice with mangoes. I'm not a Thai food expert, but my husband I decided to meet up for lunch here. The service was so fast and the food was good. Dont forget to get the sweet rice with mangoes for dessert!!
Not very good at all. I guess the college kids like the cheap lunches. I can't believe anyone would like the glued together, salty and sweet and ketchup tasting pad thai or the weak sweet and runny curries with old tasting meat. I did a mission in Thailand and the worst meal I had there was better than this place. It's a shame because it is close to my home.
wow. those microwave thai noodles at the supermarket are better.. I got talked into going here because it was close to where I work (at the U of U). In retrospect, we should have gone to Wendys instead. This place is awful bland curries, nasty pad thai, and the rice just tasted...well wrong. I could not put my finger on it but there was just something off about the rice, I didnt get sick or anything but it was just strange. The prices are not bad, but in this instance you really do pay for what you get. I will not be back. The place is decorated nice but I go to a restaurant for food. not decorations.
I Love This Place. I love Sawadee. The service is fast and the food is excellently flavored. I love the yellow curry, and it has less bite than some other Thai restaurants. The portions are also quite large.
Don't waste your cash on this pit of despair..
Sawadee is like a hollow chocolate easter egg, pretty on the outside but with a lack of substance and only disappointment on the inside. Though you thought you'd end up with a nice "authentic" meal it is anything but. The food is bland, and I'm not just talking about the heat of chillies. Thai food should not only a delicate balance between sweet, salty, sour, and spicy but also the flavors of the various Thai herbs and spices.
Curry sauces are pre-made and then vegetables/meats are quickly parboiled and the sauce slopped on as opposed to being stewed together for maximum flavor incorporation. Food quality is sacrificed for speed. Either Thai Garden or Chanon Thai Cafe would be excellent alternatives.
Best overall Thai restaurant in Salt Lake City.... great lunch spot too.... The chief "Khun Pom", is one of the best in the valley, but if you want your food more "authentically spiced" you need to tell your server, so it will be less sweet and more pungently spiced. They are the original owners of Thai Siam, sold it and found this excellent location. Beautifully decorated, most servers are Thai students going to the U, and typically very service oriented and polite. Servings are HUGE, so beware when ordering, this is the best place for a business lunch in downtown SLC, you will not be disappointed... food quality very high, very clean, some comment about too much oil...again, tell your server and they will adjust. ENJOY a great Thai meal...
