If you like over paying.. So reading all these review on botched stitches rings way too familiar. Believe the negative reviews folks. I've moved on and got a good vet and I realize how terrible this place is. I'm not even sure how they are still in business. (Overpriced services and praying on your fears I assume.) My dog ripped his leg open. It cost $600 to have the stitches done. Whatever. I love my dog so much I can deal with that. What I can't deal with is right off the bat it looked like a 2 year old stitched my dog up. I took the week off. I watched my dog like a hawk. Two days later the stitches started to ooze. They looked really red and loose. I called in and he told me not to worry about it. WRONG. Three days later (Five days after the surgery) The stitches were so loose (not ripped) that his skin started to spread and I could see the meat underneath. It was a Saturday, so emergency fee plus a FULL PRICE STITCH and it was another $700. I confronted him and asked why such a bad job was done. He said my dog breed has tight skin and he kind of expected the stitches to possibly come out. It was such a terrible experience .Anyone I have ever talked to that has been to that vet has also had terrible experience. If you read this and take it seriously it will save you money and heartache from putting your loved ones health in a sub par vets hands.

I took my dog Maggie on night into Jordan River Animal Hospital, I was worried that they wouldn't do a good job, or I wouldn't be able to afford the emergancy for Maggie. When I arrived at Jordan River Animal Hospital Dr. Silkman was there and waiting for my Maggie, just as the tech said when I called previously to tell them I was on my way. Before I knew it Dr. Silkman was back up, and informed me what was going on, what my options were, and asked what i was able to do for my dog. I appreciated him being straight forward and direct with me, and if i didn't understand a medical term, he would explain it to me so i could understand everything he was telling me. Dr.Silkman worked quickly on my dog. Surprisingly I was able to take my dog home that night. The next day I recieved a call a call from Dr. Silkman himself, asking how my Maggie was doing. I have never had a Dr fallow up like that, even though he didn't seem to show emotion or anything while I was there the night before, It was comforting that I knew he did care about my Maggie and told me I could give him a call with any questions anytime. I sure did take good use of that comment. I returned for a recheck and still felt welcomed. I now transferred vets and both my hound dogs go there for everything, even just for yearly vaccines. Even though they are a little more expensive, in the long run i know they don't cut corners and it will be worth it just to be able to expand my family's (my dogs Maggie & Molly) time with me just a little longer. Jordan River Animal Hospital is the only vet I would ever take my pets.

Dr. Silkman is the best veterinary we have ever had (He is number 7). He is very knowledgeable and caring to humans and pets. We travel a great distance in order to have Dr. Silkman as our pets' vet. We always recommend him to friends and colleagues. He is a fantastic doctor, and Jordan River Animal Hospital is a fantastic center for our pets.

I have been going to Jordan River Animal Hospital for about 6 years and have never had any problems with them. I think some of the reviews below are not accurate opinions of them. Yes I agree they are more expensive then some of the other hospital I have been to in the past, but you get what you pay for. I do not mind paying a bit more because I know my dog will always come home safe and I trust them. I hope this helps give people a different view of them.

I took my 7 1/2 year old pure bred Basset in because we noticed he had a growth (tumor) by his back leg in October. Our normal vet, Dr. Gillespie was not there, so I spoke with Dr. Terry Silkman. When I spoke with Dr. Silkman, I advised him numerous of times that we see Dr. Gillespie and Dr. Silkman NEVER advised me that he was no longer there. He advised that my Basset needed surgery and gave us a list of expenses. One of the expenses was a biopsy of the tumor. When I asked Dr. Silkman what they all do concerning the biopsy, all he told me was it was to insure that he got all of the tumor. Dr. Silkman did not tell me that the biopsy of the tumor tells them what stage it is in or what kind of tumor it was. Our bill/statement list of expenses ranged from $1,000.00 to $1600.00. When my husband took our dog in for the surgery, the cost was the high of $1600.00 when he came and picked him up. When my husband asked for more detail of the bill, the front desk person advised that she would need to get the doctor. Dr. Silkman came out and yelled at my husband for even asking for him to explain the expenses. My husband advised Dr. Silkman that we usually have Dr. Gillespie look at our dogs and that is when we found out that our vet, Dr. Gillespie was no longer there. Because of the unprofessionalism, we decided to take our dog to another vet after the staples were removed from the surgery. We took our dog back in 2 weeks later, got the staples removed and all Dr. Silkman said was he looked good. He did not advise us of anything to look for within the next few weeks. Within a week, our basset got an infection and we noticed that there was fluid around the incision. We then took him to a new vet and they looked at him and gave us some medication for the inflammation and the infection. A week later, our basset for 7 1/2 years died within a month from getting his surgery from Dr. Silkman. I cannot believe that Dr. Silkman is even in business still, the way he treats his customers. His professionalism and care for the pet owners and the pets are despicable. I spoke to our new vet and asked why our basset died and he advised that it was tumor related. If we knew what we knew now, we would have gotten the biopsy done and made a decision on what to do from that biopsy. We really did not have the information needed to make an educated decision. It just seems all they wanted was our money and nothing else. Dr. Silkman as no compassion, no professionalism and all he cared about was how much money to soak us with. DO NOT TAKE YOUR PET HERE!!

This vet is ridiculously overpriced I originally went there for emergency services And the vet I saw Erin Mcgillic was wonderful I felt she genuinely cared about my dog which is the reason I had Dr. Silkman do the ACL repair on my dog it cost 2 to 3 times what it would have elsewhere I have since found out, I was not at all impressed with Dr. Silkman's people skill's I felt like he was alway's talking down to me and I didn't feel he was very compassionate he did do an excellent job on the repair though but in suturing her leg he puckered the skin which after healing turned into a large skin tag about the size of a marble I didn't want to put her through more surgery just for cosmetic reason's so I didn't pursue it but over the course of the summer while out camping we have had 2 separate instances where she ripped it playing in the brush, when I contacted the vet's office I was told I would have to pay a 50.00 office visit for Dr. Silkman to look at it and give me an estimate to remove it I couldn't believe it they wanted me to pay him to fix his mistake unbelievable! Don't go here there are other Vets that are just as good that will not rape you financially. FYI: Erin Mcgillic no longer work's there and I am presently trying to locate her so I can take my dog's to someone I feel good about.

DO NOT GO HERE! My dog was dying on the table in front of the doctor and after nearly $500 in testing he could not even guess to a diagnosis or even give us options. He just kept rambling on and on and on about nonsense. He did offer to do more ridiculously overpriced testing however but I got the feeling he just thought "well he's old so he's probably just going to die". After putting up with him listening to himself talk for way too long we finally left. Another vet performed the same tests at 1/4 of the price and came up with a diagnosis, sent us home with simple medication and my dog healed and is doing fantastic.

I had a previous experience with this same hospital where my dog had a bacterial infection and they sent us home with what I understood was just an antibiotic. Wrong. This particular antibiotic has a high tendency of serious side effects. I know this because after my dog started pacing through the house, then losing control of his limbs, and drooling incessantly, I looked it up online. The doctor nor the staff even hinted that this was a strong medication and that I should watch for side effects. Their response when I called? "Oh yeah, that antibiotic can be that way sometimes". Which proved that they new and didn't even warn me! What kind of vet is this?

I have been going to Dr. Silkman for years. Recently I took my dog in and unfortunately she passed away. I have read some of these reviews and they don’t paint a fair picture of Dr. Silkman. I am 100% confident in his abilities and I believe that he did everything he could. The staff is great and they are very nice. Like I mentioned, I have been going to them for years and will continue to go to them in the future. They are great!

I have to agree with everyone here that has experienced this awful place. DO NOT BRING YOUR PET HERE! They really are there for just the money and could care less for any pet you bring in.

I just brought my puppy there a few days ago in desperation as he had parvo. Me and my boyfriend had no money and had to beg a close relative to help us with the vet bill. The vet assistant David was very nice and compassionate but once Dr. Terry Silkman came in the only thing he could do was confirm our dog was sick and tried to sell us on the expenses it would cost to save him. After a VERY long list of expenses, because, and I quote "Times are hard and I need to make money too" after we explained our financial situation and we had to wait for our relative who agreed to pay for everything. The vet would not tell us anything on our dog's condition at all but just continued to run a list of again expenses on how much it would be for him to treat our dog. He did not care at all that our dog was dying on his table. After much discussion we agreed to take our dog home and care for him there since the vet didn't seem to keen on keeping him for treatment. Dr. (if you can call him that) Silkman told us that our dog still had a fighting chance and should be fine with at home treatments gave us the treatment kit and sent us on our way. When we got home our dog seemed to get worse so we tried to call him to inquire if this was normal after receiving treatment. All they did was say it was just the parvo and that the doctor DID recommend treatment... he did NOT recommend it at all just racked up a bill on how much it would be. Anyway they proceeded to put us on hold and while on hold our dog died.

I don't blame them for my dog getting sick or saying he killed him but the lack of compassion and the way we were treated was just rubbing salt in the wounds and after being told our dog should be ok and still had a fighting chance and our baby DIED... it was the worst experience of my life. We fought so hard on our own to save our dog until we could bring him to professional help and he didn't receive it at. $500 later and we are left without our loved one.

Dr. Terry Silkman's attitude and professionalism was dispicable and extremely lacking. DO NOT BRING YOUR PET HERE they don't care at all about your animal just what they can milk out of your wallet.
