Ridiculously Over Priced !!!.
Nice Hospital, But they make you pay for it. Staff was friendly. If you dont mind paying the same cost as a human would in a hospital with no insurance. This is your place! My initial costs were over 1200.00 for just a x-ray, lab tests and other hospital costs. If he needed surgery which he did then the costs were over 3000.00.
on top of the first 1200.00. We finally found our old doctor and the costs were a 1/8 Of what Jordan River wanted. This Hospital in my opinion is not in practice for the care of animals. Just how much cash they can bleed from your bank account.
I am not cheap when it comes to our pets. But i am convinced that they prey on pet owners when they are in a vulnerable state.
My advice is to stay clear and call around. There is many good vets in the SLC area that will not ask you to pay for their pretty hospital.
Please please please do NOT use this facility!. Please please please do NOT use this facility! I'm serious. We took our dog in on a Sunday evening for a broken leg. Not only did the doctor tell us the break was a lot worse than it actually was, but they insisted that she needed emergency surgery. The cost they quoted us for the surgery was $4300.00. After scrutinizing their list of "needed" proceedures during and after the surgery we realized that there were A LOT (and I mean A LOT) of optional therapies, x-rays, post op visits, etc that were not even necessary. Dr. Gillespie told us that she absolutely had to have the surgery. There were no other options presented to us. We were devastated knowing that we could not afford the surgery that she needed. They led us to believe that if she didn't have the surgery, she would have to be put down. It was awful. Long story short, we decided to take her home that evening to decide what to do. During that night we decided to take her to her regular vet for a second opinion the next morning. When we took her in to her regular vet, we were given the option of splinting the leg with a HIGH likelyhood that the leg would heal just fine. We went with that option. If she doesn't show signs of the bone healing in 2 weeks, we will do the surgery. It is the same surgery as presented by Dr. Gillespie only the cost at the regular vets office will be $1000-$1200. Please do not use this office. They are crooks in my opinion who prey on those that love their pets and are in a vulnerable situation. I will also be filing a report with the better business bureau.
Don't take your pet here.. Every time I have taken a pet there, I was told that the Vetenarian would examine my pet behind closed doors to me. I had one pet that needed a spay and the vetinarian did more things to my pet than was authorized and expected payment for unauthorized work done. Every pet I have taken in has somehow had a joint problem supposedly. I think this vet is out for your money. I do think I will go elsewhere from now on.
Great when allowed to do their job. Regarding lindsayeden's one star review. I am an employee of the animal hospital and am familiar with this case. The client brought the cat in to our hospital after having it vaccinated elsewhere. (She must have been upset with the other clinic as well.) She was given an estimate for recommended testing and hospitalization but told us she could only spend $350.00. Tests were chosen to give the best chance of a diagnosis. Unfortunately, a diagnosis was not able to be made with the constraints placed on the doctor by the client. The client took the pet home with medications to try to treat the symptoms. Sadly the pet died at home. We offer cremation services for deceased pets through a private contractor. The client called and informed us that her pet had died and asked what to do with the body. We informed her of her options and she brought the pet in for cremation services but didn't want to pay or sign before she had a chance to speak with the doctor. Knowing the loss of a pet is an emotional time, we often will hold the remains for the client while they decide what to do. She was allowed to leave her pet with us until the doctor could speak with her. The doctor called multiple times, leaving messages for her to return his call, but she never did. Finally, a bill for services was sent to the owner after 3 months. After receiving the bill, they immediately called the hospital and accused us of misdiagnosing the disease and not caring. Unfortunately, we were not able to diagnose the problem with their pet or treat it with the constraints placed upon us by the client. We can't even be sure the pet died of the same symptoms since it was not in our care. It could have easily recovered, then ran outside and drank antifreeze. Once out of our care, as the client requested, we had no control. This does not make this client exempt from paying for services though.
Very unprofessional..
I haven't ever written a poor review before but my horrific interactions with this place warrants others to know how poorly my animal and myself were treated. Brought in a kitten I had only had for 24 hours. The kitten was clearly in an emergent situation (couldn't stand up, was shaky and had no balance whatsoever). Upon initial check over, Dr.Gillespie took the kitten, checked her and brought her back stating that all the labs and other tests he had quickly run showed that she was just a bit out of it and should get better. I knew the cat was suffering but $350 and a handshake later, he assured me that the cat would recover. I took the cat home, still very concerned as I imagined that she was in pain. I checked on the kitten a few hours later and she had died in her bed. I felt like this could have been prevented. Long story short, they were unethical with the way they managed the care for this kitten (which was really nothing) and completely rude and unethical regarding remains of the kitten and showed very little respect to myself and my husband in person and over the phone.
Like I said, I really don't write reviews, especially BAD ones, but this was awful! I will never bring an animal back to this clinic nor refer anyone to use this clinic. I understand that animals pass away but the way that Dr. Gillespie and his staff handled this situation was terribly unprofessional and inhumane. My business goes elsewhere and I have found that the Sandy Animal Clinic is just fantastic! Wish I had gone there first!
