I Love This Bar!.
This is one of my favorite bars in SLC, though admittedly I haven't been to them all since I recently moved to Salt Lake.
The bartenders are friendly. On busy nights, the waitresses have their hands full so it's often easier to just get your drinks at the bar. The front room is full of tables and usually has live music on weekend nights. The back room has pool tables & arcade games and feels like a sports bar. Between the two, you have two rooms where the bars are; the second of the two bars seems like it's usually more crowded. There's also an outdoor patio with tables. This is a great place to hang out in the summer; during winter, they have a few heaters for those who stand outside to smoke.
There is a cover charge most weekends, but you won't have to pay if you get there before around 10 pm. Having been there only at night to drink, I haven't had the food but I've heard it's good. (A friend had wings the other night and loved them.) All in all, a great place to hang out.
Amazing Food, Incredible Atmosphere, Love this Place!. I don't usually write reviews but after trying to find a great bbq place while out of town last week, I realized how much i rely on online opinions... so here's mine. A friend recommended meeting for drinks at Poplar Pub and I've been hooked ever since. I am in love with their fries and hand tossed pizzas and a new fave is the tortilla burger (sounds weird..tastes AMAZING) and you have to check out the Sunday brunch. On top of the great food, they have an awesome beer selection and lots of drink specials! Prices are reasonable and the place is beautiful - even the bathrooms. Its like four different bars in one - live music in the front, pub/bar feel in the middle, and sports bar/game room in the back, plus a big outdoor patio. But the best thing about Poplar is the friendly atmosphere, everyone just seems to like being there... even the staff.
Terrible service, cover charge.. I don't know that I would recommend this place to anyone. The wait staff constantly ignored us while we were there on a not-so-busy night. They seemed more interested in talking on their cell phones than in getting our drinks. Also the bartenders seemed to be solely interested in talking to whatever scantily clad women were at the bar. And the bathrooms, well if you are lucky enough to get in you would do well not to touch any of the furnishings. So beware - cover charge + bad service + so-so digs = Poplar Street Pub.
