Don't know what happened!.
We used to love Macaroni Grill! It was a place we knew we could go and have a hearty italian meal, but then they started changing the menu every other month it seemed and wow...the past THREE times we've gone the food quality has noticibly declined. I even ordered different menu items and still no good. Today, which is the last time I think I'll part with money for a meal at MG, I ordered the Chicken Scallopini...the artichokes were visibly old and very dry, the chicken was over cooked and stringy, the mushrooms were like the artichokes, old....the whole dish was sitting in about 1/2 inch of oil and lemon? What lemon? There was no lemon juice, no lemon sauce, no lemon!! It was oil. Nasty.
The staff are all very nice. They're busy, but nice and I have never minded the loud, open room feeling. We go there to talk loud and laugh anyway. For intimate dinners, we go elsewhere. But I think I've come to the conclusion that they've taken the cheap route on ingredients and as a result, the quality of the food - taste, texture, etc. has taken a nose-dive all across the board.
It's a real shame.
Good Food. I celebrated my birthday here and had a good time. The food tasted good as usual although my chicken parmesan didn't taste quite as good as it usually does. The waiter was average. I did have a singer come sing happy birthday to me and they gave me a flower as well as a chocolate dessert. It was a good night and I enjoyed the food and that they make you feel special on your b-day. Oh yes and I am really liking the $5 off coupons.
Performing chefs cook up rustic, home-style Italian entrees at this buzzing family restaurant..
In Short
A boisterous, all-ages crowd of pasta lovers pack this energetic Italian spot, where chefs clad in white hats and red scarves keep diners wide-eyed by showing their moves in the busy open kitchen. The menu boasts family-sized portions of hearty traditional fare, from antipasti, chicken and pasta dishes to seafood, steak and wood-fired pizzas. Signature plates include grilled pork chops, lobster ravioli, and penne rustica with shrimp, grilled chicken and smoked prosciutto in cream sauce.
Great food, not the best service. I ate here once many years ago & wasn't very impressed, but we have friends who love it, so I gave it another shot & was sure glad I did. Everything I have tried there has been delicious (including the complimentary bread w/oil & vinegar). The wait can be painfully long, so give yourself plenty of time. Also, the waiters often don't come check on you very much, so drink your beverages slowly. But the food is great, and that is worth going for! Plus you get to color on the table to pass the time between getting drinks!
Food OK if you get the right meal.. I usually enjoy my visits here but last night was the exception. I was served the wrong food and it took 15-20 minutes to have it corrected but by then my group was done. Boxed it up and left. Server basically ignored us after the error was corrected, never came back to refill drinks or anything. He dropped the bill and left. No offer of compensation. Doubtful I'll return.
Go before main dinner hours. Went for a birthday dinner; arrived before main dinner hours and saved lots of time with waiting and being seated; waiter and whole restaurant was very busy so we were forgotten/looked past pretty much the whole time, but the food was excellent; not much as far as atmosphere--busy and packed close together; ask for seats near a wall or in a corner so you aren't surrounded; as long as you get a waiter who can pay better attention and actually wait on you, you shouldn't be disappointed because the food is great.
A Good Chain. The menus and food quality are fairly even at all the locations I have visited from the East to West Coasts. I especially find the sauces to be uniformly flavorful. There has been a bit of variation in the pasta, some fairly dry and others dripping of olive oil. I like the atmosphere of downtown SLC better than Murray or either of the Utah County sites or any of the new franchise construct buildings. Could we remove a table or two to reduce the crowding?
Hearded Like Cattle. If you like to be pushed around like a bunch of Cattle, then Romanos Macaroni Grill is for you. The only thing missing was a cattle prod. Next time save a buck and go to a soup kitchen or school cafeteria. Otherwise, Im going to places that accept reservations, and dont seat people on top of each other. When I was finally seated, I was next to a bawling kid. After a waiter almost fell on me, we got up and left, never to return, never!
Great Food!. A very nice spot for an anniversary, birthday or other special occasion. A good selection of fresh food is always well displayed and available. Overall a very nice place.
Delicious Food. Macaroni Grill is the best restaurant I have been to. The food is well cooked, the service is excellent, and the prices aren't too shabby either.. The food is well worth the money!
