Tips for Midas Auto Service Experts

July 07, 2012

Rip off for sure. Went there with a $30 off $300 service coupon from the Midas website. Had brakes fixed for almost $500. Aaron Hoglund the "manager" REFUSED to take the coupon stating, "We already gave you a deal" and "we can raise the prices on the invoice if you want to use the coupon". Wow! I should have just gone to a shop closer to where I lived. Will NEVER use Midas again for anything and will spread the word.

Master Time Wasters. I used to view Midas as the real brake specialists. I stumbled in one day to get my minivan to pass inspection. They replaced my master brake cylinder. NOT CHEAP. After about 3 hours I drove away but when I parked to have a look, it was leaking all over.

I drove back and they said it was the plastic filler extender and the mechanic pushed it back in and said "Good to go!". Hmmmmm.

Less than 2 months later my brake light comes on. I go back because my NEW master cylinder is leaking a lot. They replace it again NO QUESTIONS ASKED. As they should. Again I wait over 2 hours because the part guy brought them the wrong part. (Not my problem but this is the 2nd time that has happened to me in 2 visits).

This time they removed the plastic extender so as to eliminate the e problem in the future. Great! Now it's near impossible to fill it with fluid. Fine. I can live with that.

3 Days later I almost hit a truck on my way to work because it wasn't stopping properly. I called my wife and she said she had the same problem the day before. Now I'm pissed. I go to Jiffy Lube to see if I was low on fluid. The jiffy lube brake guru tells me I need to go back to the person who installed my master brake cylinder and get the air bled out properly.

I call in late to work and head straight there. I called ahead and they said they'll get me right in. Nope! I wait 2 hours AGAIN! After reading 2 magazines and helping to calm down another distressed customer they were appearing to up sale, I finally get a response. The 2 guys looking at my van just shake their heads and say, "Nothing's wrong".

SO. Essentially you made me wait 2 hours to say you are not willing to get to the bottom of the issue. I lost it. I said, "You're telling me that my wife almost hit a car yesterday and I almost hit a car today and nothing is wrong with my brakes? Do I look like I don't know how to brake? Is this vehicle to hard for you to work on? Is it too unique of a Dodge Caravan for you?"

I took the keys and drove to work. On my way out the guy says "Pump the brakes!" LOL ...Like we are still discussing the issue. I got no call from the manager or anything to that effect. They just don't care and it's just as well. I will never see them again.

Great service - reasonable price - treated well. My brakes started making a funny noise so I took it to Midas to have them checked out. I was in there a few weeks ago with a family member and saw how well they treated her. Not only did they save her some money but they took the time to make sure she understood what was needed and why. My experience was the same. My brakes needed some repair but they didn't try to scare me or pressure me. While waiting there, I observed several people coming in who were also treated very well. Some people had more needs to take care of than they could afford. So, the person at the counter took the time to ask the Technician which problems were most urgent and explained everything. I was very impressed with how I was treated. Now I won't take anywhere else. I was surprised that they do everything I would ever need for my car.

Flat out crooks. I went to the Murray Midas and was told my brakes would not pass safety. After I had them show me and I cleaned all the dirt off of the sides of the pads to give an actual depth of the brake pad they were forced to pass me (I had my own metric ruler). They came up with several nit-picky items that failed while everywhere else I took the car to subsequently told me they saw no problem but since Midas flagged me as failing they were limited in how they could help me. These people are crooks; out to increase profits; not to help their customers. BEWARE!!!
