I had the meatloaf. We shared! It is a bit expensive, but definitely a place to go for a "special" night out.
Unpalatable, disappointing. I took my wife for our anniversary at the recommendation of some colleagues. The only thing I can compliment is the decor, which was quaint. I was horrified that all my dishes were oversalted. My entree was inedible because it was like a brined meat loaf that my wife agreed was inedible. I asked for another dish and received fish that was very mushy and served rare (not medium-rare, which would have been considered appropriate). I am a sushi fan, but this was not sushi grade fish. The waitress was nice enough but became annoying after each item was brought out and followed by a perseveration about how wonderfully balanced all the seasonings were. Seaweed-banana soup and improperly cooked fish were not the way I wanted to spend my anniversary.
Utah's best French cuisine, best fine dinning price.. Recently dined at Franck's for the first time, and was immediately impressed. The food was amazing, I have never had such a satisfying experience. We had the best pork confit, so tender. All the flavors were exotic and amazing. Our server was wonderful! She was so friendly and anticipated our ever need with preciseness. It was truly an amazing experience! We loved the Chef Cam, you can watch all your food being prepared. All of the staff, so talented catered to our every need. Even running next door to get extras for us. We will be back again, and again! Wish we knew about this place sooner!!
Overrated at best.
I've been here twice, and was disappointed each time. (I usually like to give places a second chance after a poor experience.) Both times I found the food to be lacking compared to other nice restaurants in town.
On the last visit all three of the meals (mine and my two companions) were heavily overloaded with salt. The crust of the fried chicken was saturated in grease, meaning that it hadn't been cooked at the right temperature. All of the meals had issues (beyond the salt). On my prior visit I had similar results, too. It's not that the food is terrible, it's just not very good. The restaurant is connected with Tuscany but doesn't seem to be in the same league.
I'm very surprised by the reviews here. Either the people reviewing here have not been to very many nice restaurants or I really happened in on a bad night, twice.
I also found the service to be a bit stuffy and not very friendly. In the many restaurants I've eaten at in Salt Lake, New York, San Francisco, and Las Vegas, I consistently find that the better restaurants have friendlier service and the ones that are trying too hard tend to have snootier, more contrived service. Franck's service stands with the latter and not up to par with Tuscany (whose staff is much more comfortable and professional).
I found the atmosphere very pleasant. It's the best thing the restaurant has going for it. Given it's great setting and atmosphere I hope this restaurant can improve.
Best New Year's Eve Dining Experience I've had!!!!. We have lived in SLC for a year now and are slowly trying all of the restaurants in town. Franck's is by far the best we have come across. We made reservations using Round Table. When we arrived we were seated right away. The atmosphere is great! It is one room that is decorated nicely with a cozy fireplace. We loved the chef cam! We ordered escargot which was full of flavor and the texture was just right. The appearance of all dishes was very professional and all of the garnishes and side dishes were unique and full of flavor. The highlight was a white chocolate and pea soup that was truly one of the best soups I have had. One bite offered a trio of flavors. First it was sweet, followed by a vegetable flavor and finally, a bit spicy at the end. For dinner, my husband ordered the elk steak and I had the smoked salmon. Both were fabulous and full of a mixture of flavors. Finally, desert. Again, full of the perfect mixture of flavors! I would certainly recommend this restaurant to anyone and I know I will be bringing my out of town guests when they come to visit.
The best thing I have ever tasted!. The single roomed restaurant gave a very intimate feel, and being able to watch the chefs prepare your food was a very unique part of the experience. I was a little intimidated by the menu, because of its uniqueness, however being from the South gravitated towards the fried chicken. It was arguably the best thing I have ever tasted.
Meatloaf better than my granny's!. Franck's is one of my absolute favorite restaurants in Salt Lake. Every time I visit, there is a new item and new unique flavors running through my mouth. At my last visit, I had the Tempura crab, which infused Asian and French resulting in an incredible taste I have never experienced. Every item is delicious, especially his appetizers and desserts. My only complaint is the bright lighting, I wish it was a little more romantic but I guess the almost perfect restaurant has to have some small fault!
Poor service, poor food VERY EXPENSIVE. I would not reccomend this restuarant. The food was heavy, cold and tasteless. The service was slow, rude, and unthoughtful. I would stop at a vendor on the street before I would make reservations here again.
mediocre food at franck's. We went there based on a friend's recommendation - and unfortunately had mediocre food. heavy, boring, nothing special. slc has lots of great restaurants; i would not recommend franck's
Absolutely incredible!. I have never been to a restaurant like this before. The decor is incredible and the serving staff acts as if you have known them for years. As you walk in the door, you can watch the chef (who I assume to be Franck) cooking through a kitchen window. He greets you as you walk in, then the hostess seats you shortly there after. Definitely make reservations, though, because it was pretty packed by the time we left. Luckily, we were able to sit by a window, because there are a few tables in the middle of the restaurant that seem in the way and very uncomfortable. Once we sat, we noticed that we could continue watching Franck cook through the TV monitor in the dining room, which was very entertaining. Once the food arrived, I was even more impressed! The food was amazing and so unique. Not a typical french restaurant cuisine but it resembled many french cusine elements I experienced in France. The final bill was a little pricey for Salt Lake but the overall experience was definitely worth it. The fondue was incredible but definitely filled me up so much that I could hardly finish my duck! My boyfriend got the meatloaf and was pleasantly surprised and impressed! I was there during the winter but I hear they have a wonderful patio area in the summer.
