I was a student here and it was horrible. I didn't get classes i paid for, the instructors were interns or had just graduated. They act like since your in a contract you're their slave. The owner is a joke. You get fined $25 for missing a day and for every appointment that u miss. There are days girls are crying because its sooooo bad. Do not go to this school. Most people failed their state exams first time through. You wont learn what u need.
Beware if you are a student trying to find a good school- this is not the one! The new owners took over and all but 3 teachers quit! They lost incredible instructors and fired the remaining ones to hire friends and girlfriends! They have no experience with esthetics and are in it for the money alone. If you are looking for a good education go somewhere else!! You won't learn what you need to know to be in the industry at this school.
I bought the 18 month 3 small areas laser hair deal from Living Social. For starters the Spa/School was very clean a modern and the student that performed the treatment was very professional and skilled. I would recommend this student spa to any that want a great experience at an awesome price.
The laser they used was painless and very time efficient. I hope this helps any one considering spa services
BEWARE- SKIN SCIENCE is fraudulent and has been abusing federal aid and will shut down within 6 months. I wouldn't reccomend going to this institution unless you like lies, excuses & deceate. They tryed to steal federal funds from me and now they are being prosecuted in Federal Court. This institution is poorly managed and are constantly being audited for fraudulent activity. Once again, BEWARE- DO NOT ATTEND THIS SCHOOL. They have 3 marks against the ,according to the better business bureau.
This place is a serious win!
A friend and I had been talking about getting facials and when I went online to do some research, SkinScience Institute kept coming up. It is a school where students perform the treatments and procedures. Further reading revealed we could get our facials for $30 each added the fact that the location is only several blocks from my apartment pretty much sealed the deal for us- we figured even if it wasn't great, we were only out thirty bucks.
I had Molly for my facial- she was terrific! My friend was with Lauren and she was just as happy. Molly took me up to our little room and left me to change. I put on the wrap and got under the sheet and blanket- the set up was pretty close to what you'd see in a "real" spa. It was dimly lit with soft music playing in the background. Molly applied several cleansers, applying a warm towel to my face and decollete in between. That's when I fell asleep! I woke up to her applying a mask with a brush. While that was drying, she massaged lotion into my hands and forearms. She finished up with sunscreen and moisturizer. We talked a little bit throughout the treatment, but it wasn't too much and there was no awkwardness. I was able to relax and enjoy my hour long facial. That was the best thirty dollars I've spent in a really long time!!
We were both very happy and will definitely come back- we are even hoping to get our boyfriends to try it! I was considering not writing a review because I'd hate for it to get so busy that I'll never be able to get an appointment again. But what a little hidden gem!!
The facial I received was great but the facilities our outdated (fake plants galore), cramped (I received my treatment in what appeared to be on office cubicle with a curtain) and far from soothing (the "ocean" sound effect from the music sounded more like speaker distortion and the loud, crude conversation from another room was easily heard by all). My treatment gown was an old piece of fabric I had to hold up myself (no elastic band) and while the student who treated me was lovely, the rest of the staff seemed young and unprofessional (girls sitting around the locker area as I walked past). Go for the treatment, not the environment. If seeking the ladder, try other nearby student spas.
Best Facial EVER! – I have had many facials before, and have paid much more for them. At Skin Science, not only did I pay half the price, but it was the most extensive facial I have ever had! It felt amazing, and I didn't want it to end. The student esthetician was wonderful and knew what she was doing. Nothing got into my eyes or hair (that has happened to me at "professional" salons before). I had a great experience and am recommending them to all of my friends.
One con I do have to mention: it was hard for me to get ahold of them by phone, I had to end up leaving a message.
(This is actually a review for their school in Orem, UT, but they offer all of the same services)
Great facials for half price – This was my first time really pampering myself. For my first facial, I didn't have very high expectations. But SKinScience was amazing. The girls at the reception desk were exceptionally friendly and professional. An instructor helped with my skin consultation and my facial was customized for my skin problems. The student esthetician was amazing; personable and professional. She made the whole experience great and now I'm hooked. The price is unbeatable and I'll definitely be going back!
Editorial Review by Corliss Lee – Spa institute offers spa services performed by students at discounted prices; while being supervised by a qualified esthetics instructor.
