Do not go here to get a tattoo done. I used Jed Miller to do my tattoo. I took in 2 pictures of what I wanted done and he said he would be willing to do it. He said he would charge me 200-250 for what I wanted done, seemed pretty reasonable. I put down my deposit and waited for my first appointment to come around. The day of the appointment, he was late and made us sit in the lobby for about 30 minutes waiting for him. He finally rolls up like he was surprised I was there when we had set up the specific time frame beforehand. it took him 30 additional minutes to set up his station and get ready to do the tattoo. He took my idea and ran with it. Drew it on me, and it looked great at first, once I saw the finished drawing, I asked him why it looked crooked, he said that was due to the natural curvature of my body. This was my first tattoo so my first mistake was trusting a child with a tattoo gun. He also will change the appointment times on you and not say a word. I gave him my cell phone number so that if my appointment needed to be changed, he would be able to notify me. I got to the shop one day that my appointment had been agreed to be at 2:30, he said I missed my appointment. I have never missed an appointment in my life! When I asked why he didn’t call me, he said "I don't call my work to come in" Then he had the audacity to tell me that he called someone else to come in and replace my appointment time. Correct me if I am wrong here, but isn't that a little hypocritical? This happened twice. He said he had it written down in the appointment book for an earlier time, the ink was smudged and looked like it had just barely been written in there. The tattoo is about 40% done, and its crooked. He took my design and turned it into a cartoon. Cartoons are not sexy, nor does it capture the meaning of the tattoo. I have since found a new artist that believes he will be able to fix Jed’s "art" and actually give me what I wanted in the first place. When I told him that I did not want to continue with his work, he told me I needed to give it a chance and that it will look better when he is done. As far as I know, a crooked tattoo cannot be fixed by time. Seriously Jed, if you are going to work in a profession that you are putting things permanently on people's bodies, time to work on your realism and not turn a tattoo that is supposed to be sexy into a cartoon.
Jed making leaps and bounds. I have recently been very impressed by jed's portfolio. It is growing quickly the art is well done. When I first met jed it seemed he struggled a little. Now i would reccomend him to any and all of my friends . He is also very fast. He gets the tats done quickly and with excellent results.
lalalaaaaa.
I went there for my first tattoo, and I was suprised cause they did it right there and then.
I got a dandylion turning into a birds, I dont remember the guys name that did it.
I loved it. They rock! (:
Shop around some more....
My cousin from Canada came to visit me in SLC, and we decided to get a tattoo together before she left. She got some work on her leg that she was disapointed with. She got it fixed when she got home and it actually turned out very nice.
I got a small tattoo on my wrist, the lines went from thick to thin in many spots, it was not fully colored in. I was told I could come in and get it fixed up for free so I went back in a few weeks later and it actually ended up looking worse, I couldn't believe it.
Even though I could go in for free again, I've lost all faith in my tattoo artists ability. His name was Kenny. I am now looking around for someone to fix it, and possibly add to it to cover up the messed up lines. I'll do my homework a little better this time before I just walk in someplace on a whim..
They screwed up big time.. I had heard some good things about Susie M's, so I went in and looked at a couple of the artists' portfolios and decided I wanted to get my work done there. I made the appointment when the day came, I was asked to wait for over an hour past my appointment time just to see the tattooist. I decided that I would just stick it out though, so I waited...and waited...and waited. Finally Susie herself came to tattoo me. Smelling like pot. I was impressed by her portfolio so I didn't say anything, figuring this wasn't anything out of the ordinary. I ended up getting a tat which is NOT AT ALL what I wanted. It looks NOTHING like the pictures I brought in. People always think it's fake because the colors look like they were drawn on by a crayola marker and because the lines are not straight or clean whatsoever. I am completely disappointed with this tattoo and I am going to have it fixed by somebody who can actually handle a needle. I honestly think that the establishment should be shut down for providing such appallingly horrible service.
Happy customer. I have 6 tattoo's 5 of them had been done at Susie M's. I just got my 6th this weekend, let me say I am impressed! The staff is excellent (my last tattoo I got there was 4 years ago) and they are amazing artists. I had Kenny do my tatt and it turned out excellent. It looks just like the pciture I brought in, only improved. The shading he did on it really amkes it pop. I wouldn't dream of going any other place. Aside from being a great artist, Kenny is one funny guy. He had me laughing the whole time. MY girlfriend who came with me for my tattoo was so relaxed in that environment that she is now ready to get her first tattoo ( she had been some what frightened) Thanks to all The Susie M staff and Kenny we will see you soon. TAHNKS FOR THE BEE!!!!!!!
great staff!. Jed did an amazing job on my tattoo. The entire staff at susie m's is very friendly and are willing to listen to what you want and they make sure to give you what you want. They are all also amazing artists and very good with freehand. This was my 4th tattoo but my first time at this shop, i will continue to go to susie m's from now on.
Fantastic Shop. Susie M's is great. They are very professional but also friendly. I went in with my brother to get his tattoo and liked them so much I ended up getting one too. It was his first tattoo and they were very nice about it and would stop whenever he needed to. I had Kenny and besides doing an amazing job, he kept me entertained the whole time. I was there for about 6 hours and was never bored. It's a great environment, with great people.
The only place for me!. Having been a very loyal customer to Susie M's for the last 3 years, I have had many business and personal experiences with the shop and its employees. I have been tattooed by artists from other shops and was underwhelmed to say the least. The artists at Susie's, whether they are senior artists or apprentices, care about what they do and strive to give you their finest. Kelly has trained many accomplished artists in his career and continues to everyday at Susie's. Kelly, Susie, Jesse, Jen, Jed, Kenny, Dell, Brandon, and the rest of the staff have never been anything but welcoming and professional in every way to me and the people that have accompanied me to the shop. I have personally seen hundreds of satisfied customers leave the shop with a piece of art they can be proud of from every artist employed there. It is without a doubt the most comfortable environment I have ever, and will ever be tattooed in and I have an artist that is irreplaceable. Jesse Carlton has tattooed me well over 30 times and I have yet to be dissatisfied. After 3 years, I know these employees very well and I have nothing but respect and appreciation for them. Their work is amazing and their personalities are just as colorful as the art that represents them. I've found the shop for me and I would highly recommend the shop and proudly show my tattoos anytime someone inquired.
Never go to Jed at Susie M's.
I heard good things about Susie M's so, after years of delay, went to them to get my first tattoo.
It was a pretty basic custom tattoo but could not be altered in any way or it lost all meaning.
He stuck the copy on my arm, seemed pretty confident about it and got started on what should've been done in under an hour.
About an hour in he stopped and had a more senior artist take over because he "lost control" of his hand.
I was worried, but hoped that the mistake was minor as it was apparently almost finished.
After 3 hours I was told to take a look and found that the lines were inconsistent in thickness, not smooth, and that at some point someone's hand had clearly slipped and ruined part of the design. The senior artist (who I believe would've done a good job had they done it alone) was very apologetic and explained that they'd done what they could with what had already been done.
I went for a cigarette and tried to alter the design without affecting the meaning. I thought I came up with a workable solution (though definitely not at all preferred) so he finished up in another 30 minutes.
They agreed to only charge me the deposit and I left. On my way I noticed a serious error in the design (equate-able to spelling a name incorrectly!) and went back to demand the rest of my money after having a good cry about it. This is not fixable without having it lazered and hopefully only touched up but probably completely re-done by someone else.
When I got back I was told to "go f*ck myself" and they said I couldn't have my money back. I refused to leave. Jed then marched in to get my deposit and the form I signed to show me - I took it the money and left.
My tattoo looks like it was done by a child and is meaningless.
I would be very wary of recommending you ever go there. After being scarred and treated so unprofessionally I am going to find it very hard to ever get a tattoo again.
Jed is unskilled, unprofessional and unapologetic.
