Great, Great & Great. I only good things to say about Kyoto. Great service, great food, and great pricing. This place is a Sugarhouse jewel that is worth a visit no matter where you live in the valley.
Yummy Japanese Food!.
I've been to Kyoto a number of times, and each time it has been a relatively positive experience. The only time were I was disappointed was when there was a ridiculously long wait for a table. The atmosphere, is casual and authentic. I really enjoy their little booths with the dividers and mats. The restaurant is very diverse with a number of various clientele. Though I am not a big fan of the iceberg lettuce with sweet dressing as a part of the meal, the miso soup is just perfect, not too salty, or bland. They have a pretty good selection of food. Their tempura is divine. I would suggest that people try either the Ebi(Shrimp) Tempura, or the Seafood Tempura. Their Lunch Box is a great sampler of Japanese cuisine, though it is more on the expensive end. The Udon Tempura is delicious, and great to have on a chilly winter afternoon. I would advise people who are watching their sodium intake to avoid ordering the gyoza, because they are too salty.
The setting is wonderful. There are intimate booths throughout the entire restaurant. Kyoto also has an outdoor patio dining area. They have more authenticity than some of the other local Japanese restaurants.
Overall, Kyoto is a great place for people looking for an authentic Japanese restaurant.
great japanese food!. I love dining at Kyoto! It's a great neighborhood restaurant with authentic japanese cuisine. The price point is also very reasonable.
Can you deport the older Japanese female servers?. At Kyoto restaurant, older Japanese female servers are very mean to younger Japanese/Asian female customers (my Chinese and Korean girl friends agrees)….They have the worst bunch of older Japanese women “hating” to serve a customer like myself. They are very nice to Americans -- White men -- though. At the same table, my husband was treated very nicely and I was treated like crap. Is Japan still occupied in their mind??? I will try Kyoto again when all the mean "Obachan" are sent back to Japan.
This place is so good there are often waiting lines.. This is one of two excellent truly japanese restaurants I have been eating at in SLC for over 25 years. It has always been a shining star to me for great dining experiences. Food and service has always been excellent. I really don't like waiting in lines for anything, but I definitely make an exception to that rule when I want to eat here... it really is worth waiting for... very yummy!
Great Traditional Japanese Cuisine. Kyoto offers some of the best sushi and sashimi in town, as well as some excellent non-sushi dishes. The tempura is very good, and the Beef Sukiyaki is outstanding. The service is always great and the atmosphere is a nice alternative to the common trendy sushi bars. Highly recommended.
Nothing memorable. I recently moved to slc from florida and have been looking for a good, affordable place to eat sushi. In FL there was one sushi place I frequently went to which had huge, really tasty rolls that were very inexpensive. Usually between 3-6 dollars( including rainbow, dragon, and other specially rolls). I went to Kyoto because I had heard that they had pretty good, affordable sushi. While it was affordable then other places- the sushi was below par. For one thing, the sushi menu was sparse having only a handful of rolls to choose from(nothing creative either). They used minced imitation crab meat and the rolls were bland and boring. I was disappointed to say the least. Other food items on the menu may have been good but they were pricey.
Best Udon in Utah. Always same great taste! Love the nabeyaki udon and tempura. Best food in utah. Kyoto never seems to fail me. The owner is so friendly as well as the watiress ladies. They seem to all be from Japan, yet their english is very easy to understand and they are so kind and fast. Recommend Kyoto to everyone!
Authentic Food and Atmosphere With Delicious, Reasonably Priced Sushi Took Me Back to Japan.... We arrived on a Friday night at just after 5:30PM, in order to avoid the evening rush. Despite not having a reservation they were able to seat us right away and gave us plenty of time to enjoy our dinner. Our meal consisted of sushi and appetizers. The variety, quality, and relatively low price of the sushi was wonderful. We enjoyed every bite of it! My favorite was the spicy tuna roll as it had a smooth flavor with a little kick and just the right texture. The freshness and authentic style of all of the sushi made it some of the best I've had in Salt Lake. For appetizers we ordered Gyoza and Age (Japanese style fried chicken pieces). The Age seemed rather expensive for an appetizer, but turned out to be served in a big heap on a large plate over the top of tempura vegetables with orange halves on the side. There was easily enough to feed all five of us and so it turned out to be a surprisingly good value. In fact the Age tasted very authentic and reminded me of the Kara Age I often ordered at restaurants in Japan. I plan on returning to this restaurant many times in the future. As I found out later we were very lucky to be seated arriving on a Friday night at the spur of the moment. As such I would also recommend making reservations before going.
Sorry, it's expensive.. The "Meal Price" rating needs to be adjusted to reflect "$$$." Trust me if you want sushi there are better places that are a lot cheaper!
