Editorial Review for Zinn Bistro – by Helen Hodgson
The Scene
Brass chandeliers, strings of white lights, classical music and crisp tablecloths set the scene. The space is divided into a number of small dining areas, creating a sense of intimacy. Mom is in the kitchen, her daughters are the servers, and a sense of family pride pervades throughout.
The Food
Based on availability of the highest-quality fresh ingredients, the limited dinner menu changes weekly. Any of the first courses, like 15 large, lightly battered coconut shrimp or thickly sliced onion rings served with raspberry dipping sauce, could serve a group as an appetizer. Among entrees, seared pork scaloppini is topped with rich mushroom sauce reminiscent of stroganoff and served over noodles. Moist halibut steak has a crisp almond crust and spicy orange marmalade sauce. Complimentary green salad is accented with oranges, nuts, raisins, crisp wonton pieces and shavings of Asiago cheese. Desserts feature baked goods like warm three-berry cobbler topped with ice cream, apricot bread pudding with crème anglaise and a chocolate-crusted coconut cream pie.

Insider Tips
Watch the ClockReservations are taken between 6pm and 7pm. There's one seating only, and if you're late, you may find the kitchen closed.
Vegetarians BewareWhile a chicken and a fish selection are currently included among the four appetizers and five entrees, vegetarians have few choices at either lunch or dinner.
Make it LunchBecause a limited quantity of food is prepared each day, items tend to run out, so it's best to come early.

I eat here often and you can't find anything on the menu that isn't fabulous. The atmosphere is nice except for the fact that the staff/owners seldom smile. Disappointed in the fact that at times, they act like they are unhappy and maybe tired. Pastries are wonderful and always fresh..just wish they would act like the customer is really there for pleasantries.
Pros: great food and not yet totally discovered
Cons: awnry staff

I've been here only once, it was around Valentine's day, and it was for dinner. I called a couple of weeks ahead to make reservations, which consists of leaving your name and number and the day you'd like and they'll call you back, the guy on the phone seemed very courteous, enough that I was surprised after hearing terrible stories about this place. Anyway we got there a few minutes early, which was apparently no problem (I was expecting a problem) and we were seated right away, the bread they give you before your meal is delicious, I almost filled up just on that. The service wasn't horrible, I never got dirty looks or no refills on my water, and every person who came to our table was smiley, etc. For dinner I got the tomato soup, my boyfriend got the puffed pastry beef as well and we had bread pudding for desert, it was all incredibly delicious and I left stuffed with food to spare. All in all, If you're someone who firmly believes that the customer is always right and that if you whine enough you should get what you want, then this is not the place for you.
Pros: food, ambience
Cons: none, the service was fine.
