Tips for Virg's British Fish & Chips

WHOA! Severe Mis-understandings!. I don't know what the problems/confusions are of previous reviewers, but VIRG's is the same establishment that used to reside on State Street, They use the same oil (soy based and heart friendly) as the old VIRG's. Yes, they have dropped the chips, but the new huge menu is both surprising and very good. We miss the old location, but that was due to the loss of lease. We are truly pleased we don't have to travel to Tooele. We have been enjoying Virg's since the Late 70's and still do.

People are confused. The Virg's British Fish & Chips at 3150 S State St. is NOT NOT NOT the same as the Virg's at 5700 South and Redwood. They are totally different places and as far as I know they have no relation to each other. That place In Taylorsville is like a diner. This Virg's on State is a little hole in the wall that specializes mainly in Fish and Chips. The fish at the diner Virg's is okay but go to Virg's on state if you want much better fish cooked fresh for you by the owner and in more of a English Fish and Chip shop type of atmosphere..

Oh no, no, no don't go. Virg's has moved to 5400 South and Redwood Road and expanded their menu from just fish and chips to all things greasy spoon. If their fish and chips were good at the old place, they totally are awful now. I was expecting British Fish and Chips but got yucky, Utah, landlocked, don't spend your money on this stuff. Thick greasy batter, old oil, really bad english chips that they charge extra for. Fish and chips should be battered in beer or club soda to retain lightness. English Chips should not be battered but these are in the same yucky stuff on the fish. The tartar sauce was the worst however with store bought mayo and bland pickle relish.
