Tips for Ahh Sushi

December 15, 2012

My boyfriend and I went to O'Shuck's/Ahh Sushi because we wanted to go somewhere with good food where we could watch the Jazz game. We were seated on the bar side because there are no tvs on the sushi side. It took fifteen minutes for anyone to greet us (by that point, we had walked up front and taken menus for ourselves), but we figured, since we were on the bar side, it would take a little longer for someone to greet us. We had eaten there several times before and gotten decent service, but this was our first time sitting on the bar side. We ended up getting charged for six rolls of sushi instead of four, even though when the food came out, I commented on the large amount of sushi the server had brought, to which he only said, "Enjoy!" When our bill came, we were shocked: $100!! We could have eaten at Pago or a restaurant in Park City for that amount of money! Not a dive bar with not that great sushi...and the manager refused to comp anything, even when we complained. We will never be eating or drinking there again!

A. I love this place. Service is excellent. I'd heard complaints about service here before, but it seems they've ironed out the kinks.

But the real draw is the food. Protip: order a jazz pick n' roll. It's covered in a special sauce that'll bring a tear to your eye.

The place is relaxed and cozy. Bring a date. With half-priced rolls at happy hour, feeding two is like feeding one!

The 'Funky Vegas' Roll is to die for!. Dude, I am somewhat of a Sushi "noob", per se, because I've only eaten sushi at 3-4 locations around Utah. Nevertheless, you can be confident in my opinion when I say: "Ahh Sushi" is worth driving an hour for...!"

The guys at Ahh Sushi know their stuff. Their ingredients are super fresh, their presentation is clean, service is awesome, and in the end... the most important part... their sushi rolls are AMAZING. I HIGHLY recommend the "Funky Vegas" roll.

***The other amazing thing about their rolls is their pricing. You can spend as little as $5 to $8 for amazing sushi rolls... The key is though, to get the cheaper pricing, you have to dine in... but it's worth it. The atmosphere is cool (be aware, they're a half-bar half-sushi bar, so you have to show ID to get in)

Go! Go now!

Best Sushi in SLC. Lunch at Ahh Sushi is a great break from work. The fish is fresh and the rolls are 1/2 off, which helps in my selection of purchasing not just one roll but two. I can't decide which roll is my favorite because everytime we go I get something different and it is always my favorite. The staff is attentive and the chefs (Ferdz, Gary, and Daniel) are experienced Sushi Chefs and great guys to converse with, that is why we always sit at the sushi bar. :) We keep trying to venture out to other Sushi places downtown but can't find a better sushi place, so no more venturing. We know where it's at with Sushi! My birthday is coming up in August, I am looking forward to my company taking me to Ahh Sushi for lunch. Mmmmmmmm

Superb. I've been coming to Ahh Sushi since it opened its doors. And through endless combinations of chefs, cooks, and servers, it keeps delivering some of the finest sushi in the area. The food is great, the staff are almost always ready and eager to help you, and the whole presentation is laid back and relaxed. Naturally, such a deal can't remain a secret, so you can expect the place to get packed, especially on wednesday nights. And when it does, service can slow down significantly. But just sit back and enjoy a schooner. The quality of the rolls you're getting is worth a wait.

So there IS sushi in Utah!. I'm a college kid. Which means very little cash and a diet that consists largely of things I can microwave. And being from the coast, I'm spoiled when it comes to sushi. So after a couple months of cafeteria food up at the U, I was craving food from the land of the Rising Sun. So I checked out Ahh Sushi. IT IS THE REAL DEAL. Fresh fish. And the guys behind the bar know what they're doing. I came out thoroughly satisfied and very much unwilling to return to heat lamp pizza.

highly recommend. The O'Shucks/Ahh Sushi combo is a strange thing to see at first, but the urban East-meets-West atmosphere makes for a surprisingly cool mix... and it carries over into the food. The sushi isn't the traditional fare; the chefs mix things up by adding a delicious array of sauces, fruits, and even fried items to the rolls. And it works great! Make sure to get in early, happy hours can get crushed. So go!

Seek and ye shall find GREAT SUSHI. Stumbled over Ahh Sushi when trying to get my sushi fix down in SLC. What a find! The sushi itself is excellent (go for the Jazz Pick 'n Roll. You won't be disappointed). Service has always been excellent in my experience, and I've come back many times since. Go see for yourself!

From mediocre to worse. I used to be a frequent diner/drinker at Ahh Sushi/O'Shucks but over the past year this place has started to suck really bad.

The beer prices are outrageous. I live in Downtown SLC and can't think of any other place that charges $6.00 for Pabst.

Their service staff has always been a bit snotty but they are out of control now. I usually have good service from the bartenders when I sit in the O'Shucks side of the place. The restaraunt staff is the problem. And the manager is always unpleasant. Whenever she's my server, I just cringe.

If you go during happy hour or Wednesday nights, they have good deals so the place is busy but if you go any other time (including a Friday or Saturday night) it's totally dead. I guess other customers are fed up with how rapidly this place has gone from mediocre to worse.

There are just too many other great sushi bars in downtown SLC that I'm shocked the owners of Ahh Sushi have allowed their prime-location bar & restaraunt to end up this way.
