Inn at Temple Square restaurant serving hungry guests and downtowners..
The Scene
Passages is owned by the Hotel Temple Square Corporation, which manages several well-known LDS Church-affiliated restaurants downtown. But don't worry, the restaurant (across the street from the LDS Temple) is not stuffy, but quite welcoming, with vaulted ceilings, ceiling fans, polished floors and friendly staff; lunches are especially casual. Passages has been aggressive about luring pedestrian traffic from nearby retailers and offices.
The Food
Dinner at Passages usually requires a reservation and is a step up from lunch. The menu is basic but appealing, including delicious oven roasted chicken and tasty beef tenderloin. Then again, there's a hearty, home-cooked flavor to nearly everything here--like the Philly cheese steak sandwich for lunch, served with a tantalizing mix of onions and peppers and plenty of melted cheese. You could go light Passages' soup and a half sandwich, but why?
Good..except for the food...& service. My fiance and I went to Passages with his family for lunch. My first impression was good. The decor was nice. We sat down and they brought out orange rolls and croissants with raspberry butter. All was well except for the very immature and brash waitress. Then the entrees came and it went from bad to worse. I ordered the grilled tuna sandwich ($11!!!), I took 1 bite and could not believe how horrible it was. I did not eat ANY more. The whole table of 15 seemed dissapointed with the fare and it is EXTREMELY over priced.
Great if you're on a diet. This place is great if you're on a diet. Beyond the salad, you wont bewanting to eat much. You'll enjoy the rolls they serve and the salad, but their entrees were awful. My husband had baby back ribs (half a rack in this overly sweet rootbeer sauce) and I had some distasteful pasta.
Very nice restaurant.
Better than most hotel restaurants. Food is very good, portions are huge, service is also very good. Turnaround time is fast, but you don't feel rushed.
Servers seem to really know the menu.
Awesome desserts, too!
Dissapointing. I ate recently at passages and was sorely dissapointed. The location and ambience are awesome. The food was mediocre at best. A menu overrun by fruit sauces and lack of creativity. Definately not worth the money. One person at our table ordered the Baby back ribs. What he got was a half rack of clearly not pork back ribs but St. Louis ribs tha was over sweet and under cooked. The service was fine but was unable to make up for bad food.
