The Scene
Located in the former meatpacking district, this bright, airy store almost has more room than it knows what to do with. Along the west wall is fresh produce, with coolers near the back for dairy, cheeses, and other perishables. The east side of the store holds counters for the
bakery, deli, and freshly prepared soups, sandwiches, pasta, and salads, with cafe tables to eat at. A small packaged grocery section carries a good selection of olive oils, spices, pasta, and other Mediterranean specialties.
The Goods
While the quality of what they do have is excellent, only vegetarians could call this one-stop shopping, since meats are limited to Boar's Head cold-cuts and there's no seafood (or booze). The grocery selection is also fairly limited beyond the Mediterranean items. However, in their areas of concentration, the products are well priced and top quality, with many sold under a house label and whole grains and organics well represented.
