Two thumbs down, unless you let me borrow more thumbs.. The problem with this large, multi-room restaurant can be summed up quite nicely with the simple fact that their kitchen window is 4 feet wide. From an operational stand-point, service couldn't be more bottle-necked. Not to mention they've rotated through nearly a half dozen managers in as many years... Now onto the other problems, my first experience with the Sky-Box I ordered the Salmon, a risky choice at a Sport's Bar but hey, I was feeling brave. The waiter looked confused, he said he didn't think they had salmon, so he went in the back and checked. A few minutes later he returned and was agitated, "Ya, we don't carry salmon." His agitation agitated me so I retorted, "Is there anything else on the menu you don't carry?" Now he was condescending, "Salmon is NOT on the menu." So I pointed it out to him and played dumb, "Oh ok, then how do you pronounce this dish?" I can almost forgive a server not knowing what certain dishes taste like or are made with but not knowing what is actually ON the menu? That is a sign that something is seriously wrong with the establishment, I could go on but I think that single experience pretty much sums up what my subsequent visits were like. Lousy service, long cook times, horrible, horrible horrible.

Saturday night with kids. Wanted a fun evening out with my family and that is what we had at the Skybox. We got the big nachos with black beans which were enough for 2 adults (As dinner!). I had their tropical long Island which for $7.50 was good. Our waitress had good timing and wasn't interrupting our meal all of the time. My kids ordered the grilled cheese and pizza, and I think when we go back I will try their vegetarian pizza. I ordered their salmon with mango which was ok (didn't care for the mango salsa), but it was just too much food. Overall we had a good family experience, and after dinner we went to their arcade and had a really fun time on the skiing game in the back (I snowboard but this game was a great deal-inexpensive- maybe .50 cents) and lots of fun...my husband played it 4 times with those arcade cards; I played it twice.

Great place for "guy" food.... The Skybox has instituted a new 16 minute express lunch menu with faster service, a

Heres what Ive tried:

-Skybox burger

-Buffalo Wing pizza: the taste is different but good.

-Pepperoni and Sausage pizza: the pizza dough and sauce is wonderful. The cheese seems to be of a high quality. Generous toppings.

-Chili Verde Burrito: generously stuffed with chicken, cheese, peppers.

-Quesadilla: hearty portion of chicken, served with rice, black beans. Chicken was tender. A little heavy on the onions though.

-Bacon & Blue Cheese burger: bun was dry, otherwise the burger was great.

-BBQ Pork sandwich: BBQ sauce was bland. Pork was served cool which I didnt like.

-Cobb Salad: Fresh lettuce. Large portions of meat, bacon, and toppings.

-Penne Bolognese: penne were overcooked and mushy, sauce was greasy and bland.

-Chicken Pesto panino: Delicious, light flavor of pesto. A little on the greasy side due to the cheese.

Excellent service. Date of visit: 10/20/2005 @ noon.

My server was very friendly, prompt, and helpful.

She recommended the buffalo chicken pizza and it was delicious. 8" pizza for $9.99. I think it's a bit too expensive. Chicken is an inexpensive meat.

$2.25 for a soda is way too much though.

Expect a fight if tip isn't big enough!. Went to Sky Box for dinner on (10/02/04). Our waiter was awful. Chips and salsa appeared used, broken and piled on a plate. One even had hard melted cheese on it! Soft drinks are ridiculously overpriced (check menu) and apparently their policy of one refill means for the entire table. Of 3 of us only one person got one refill. Too many examples of terrible service, but include wrong orders, no checking on things, no fixing of orders, no refills, knowingly shorting us on our change. When two of us went to wash up, this guy actually came over and argued with the youngest girl in our group about the tip. It is unbelievable that Sky Box would retain such a jerk waiter. Should have paid attention to the negative reviews. They were right!

Salt Lake City Elite. Host staff was friendly and approachable, promptly greeted, server was very helpful with both bar selection and Menu selection. Burgers fish and chips made to order accompanied by fresh fries. They promptly found a game that i was looking for and seated me right in front of it. Game room fun and appropriate for all ages. I felt very safe having my kids run back and forth. Great Experience!!!

Athletics and standard American fare define this Gateway eatery.. The Scene
With nearly 80 television sets of all sizes (including three over the urinals in the men's restroom), the SkyBox Grille is a sports fan's dream. The TVs, each tuned to different sporting events, set a rowdy tone in this hot spot, but a luxuriously appointed cherry-wood dining area and amphitheater-style private club give everyone room to spread out. Patio seating is also available when the weather is nice.

The Food

Attentive, fresh-faced staff serve from the reasonably priced and fun-but-standard menu of sandwiches, pizzas, salads and pasta dishes, all made to guzzle beer with. The Skybox Burger, a favorite, is straightforward and presented nicely, accompanied by a generous helping of spicy fries and tangy sauce. The beer-battered halibut and chips are also a house specialty.

More like the "Sports Thrill".. TV's, TV's, and more TV's. What more could a sports enthusiast want? It's a nice restaurant with really good food (reminds me a little of home cooking). The best spot is the private club hidden in the back. Try not to miss that or the 20 foot wide TV in it. I like it a lot.
