The Scene
Brightly colored sponge-painted walls and big wooden tables and chairs give this Mission eatery a cheerful do-it-yourself look. The staff behind the counter is friendly, and the place has become a fast favorite among a wide variety of neighborhood locals, from play-dating moms and kids to the tattoo-and-goatee crowd.
The Food
The tasty burgers here are cooked medium, so diners should be sure to ask for meat on the rarer side. Buns (plain, whole wheat, French roll or focaccia) come toasted and squirted with choice of mayo, barbecue sauce, pesto, roasted garlic or teriyaki sauce. Thick-cut fries, served with the burgers, have good potato flavor--a better side choice than the bland coleslaw and baked beans. Vegetarians can dive into the good garden burgers or the piled-high Californian sandwich, a pesto-dosed extravaganza of grilled eggplant, red onions, red and green peppers and melted provolone cheese.

I made a special trip to San Fran from San Jose to try the burgers at Mega Mouth. My burger was good, the fries were okay, and my milk shake was good. I was impressed with their use of fresh ingredients and the care they took in preparing my food. The service was good, the prices were fine, but the restaurant is small and rather run down. All in all it was a good experience, but it didn’t live up to the hype of being the best burger in town.

When I crave a good ol' burger and fries, this is where I go. The burgers are huge and juicy (I usually have mine rare) and the toppings are very fresh. Lots of great choices for sauces (BBQ & pesto recommended) and cheeses. The fries are also good -- thick-cut, hot, and crispy (almost made to order!). The only reason this wouldn't be considered a gourmet burger joint is because of the atmosphere. Occasionally the tables and condiment bottles should be wiped down (they're sorta greasy). But everyone should definitely come here for the food.
Pros: best burgers, lotsa fries, fast service
Cons: greasy tables, greasy atmosphere
