It was always hard to come back to Utah and be subjected to cheap shops like the ones in the downtown malls. (Excluding Nordstrom and Meier & Frank) When Gateway opened I gladly went and discovered a superb place to shop. There are different varieties of shops for people of all financial and social levels. For younger people there is Abercrombie & Fitch, American Eagle Outfitter, and the Buckle. For more respectable people there is BEBE, Banana Republic, J. Crew, and J. Jill. There are numerous restaurants and a theater, so any and all needs can be met at once. One cant forget Valet Parking offered at 3 different places. Great Place, Good People.
A distinctive shopping area that borders on an amusement-park experience..
Overview
Traditionalists may cling to the old-school charm of Main Street retail, but everyone else will gravitate toward the Gateway mall for some serious shopping. Gateway is the largest shopping area in Salt Lake--part of a larger complex that includes condominiums and office buildings--and has the unusual distinction of riding the line between sophistication and amusement-park fanfare.
The Experience
Stores making their debut in town include Abercrombie & Fitch, Bebe, J. Crew and Build-a-Bear Workshop. Old favorites such as Bastille, Bill Loya, Victoria's Secret, Brookstone, Barnes & Noble and the MegaPlex Theater also inhabit the complex. Stores catering to the local crowd include Galyans, a sporting-goods store and Brighton Collectibles. Restaurants featured throughout the mall include the Happy Sumo sushi bar, California Pizza Kitchen, Fleming's Prime Steak House and Ruby's Diner.
Good atmosphere, bad construction. The quality of stores at The Gateway is superb, with quite a bit of variety. The outdoor atmosphere is excellent all-year round (those naysayers frightened of cold or hot weather should move from Utah), providing exercise and a unique shopping experience all in one. Unfortunately, the construction is shoddy, the lighting is horrendous, and the plastic/stucco facade is entirely unappealing. A more post-modern look would have been more suitable. This thing looks like it would be right at home at Lagoon.
Fun sometimes. I enjoy visiting the Gateway. There are a lot of good stores, like Abercrombie, as well as the movie theater and restaurants like California Pizza Kitchen. The outdoor idea is fun except for in the winter. It also could use some more entertainment, like the Desert Ridge mall in Phoenix. If you avoid the parking lot, you're good to go. I take Trax sometimes, but if you live in the south end of the valley, it's only worth the trip on special occassions.
This is what I personally like about you. I like how they perty much have everything that you are looking for. But you need to have more sales!!!
Utah's 1st Full Fledged Ghetto To Be. The place looks like it was designed to become a ghetto. Cheap stucco construction. Homely buildings. The least attractive project ever built in Salt Lake. Boyer Company is either looking waaaaay into the future or just out to make a quick buck at the expense of the public. Not even a good effort.
Love it. The Gateway is great, especially for those who are in town from out of state or have moved into Utah. You are finally able to find clothing stores that exist out of state and no longer to you have to buy these things online. I love the fact that they have FINALLY brought Bebe to Utah! This is definitly the place to find some unique clothes that are chic and sexy. The only drawback is to those who don't want to spend a lot of money on clothing. If that is the case, then Gateway is definitly not for you.
A Great Place For Families!. The Gateway is a wonderful place for a family outing. The stores may be a bit expensive but for those who don't want to spend money, you can always pack a picnic basket, take some towels, and enjoy the water squirters. If you're there on a good day they might even have music entertainment playing alongside the olympic sculpture!
Splish Splash!. Gateway has an amazing fountain that everyone enjoys playing in. That is there best feature going for them. A day is well spent, free of charge, by taking a picnic lunch, spreading out a blanket on the grass and playing in the fountain. Every so often music comes on and an amazing water show (kids included) is performed. It is a great day at low cost! :)
Overrated!. Very few stores, and even less good stores. As for the outdoor shopping... now way! I went this summer and it was far to hot to enjoy myself. I can't wait to try shopping outdoors in the winter. The cold is the only way you will get me to go into some of the second-rate stores they have though.
