The Scene
It's all about simplicity at this warm Italian restaurant. One large, understated room features brick walls, painted concrete floors, and a few paintings of Florence. White tablecloths and bottles of olive oil and balsamic vinegar dress the tables. The crowd's a happy mix of locals and regulars as well as tourists.

The Food
Just what you'd expect for classic Italian: pastas, pizzas, salads, antipasti, chicken and seafood--and huge portions. The polenta al funghi is disappointingly nondescript, but the Caesar salad is wonderfully crisp and tart with lots of anchovy flavor. Simple flavors in the pasta cremaschi with penne, arugula and prosciutto, make for a nice, light repast. The ravioli de formaggio (jumbo cheese ravioli with wild mushroom, cream and tomato sauce) has superb flavor--a winner! Order a bottle of the house Chianti to accompany dinner items nicely. Don't miss the tiramisu for dessert.

Salads 4/10 Good greens and appetizing-sounding combinations, but both salads were very bland (Caesar dressing was 90% oil). We had to beg for pepper to liven them up. Entrees 6/10 Decent basic Italian fare. Chicken parm was slightly overcooked but ok (so maybe a 5 on that), and I had a spicy ravioli with roma tomatoes and olives. Coffee 5/10 The coffee was good, but the cream looked past its prime, and when we asked for a new one, they poured the top half of it into the trash and handed it back to us! Dessert 8/10 Very good tiramisu. Light and flavorful, well presented. Service 6/10 Nice enough, prompt except for the check. Oops the pepper non-incident. Oops the cream incident. Ambiance 6/10 Nice enough. Value 3/10 We were thinking cheap meal due to the Citysearch rating, but the total was $64 before tip, and we had no alcohol!

All four of us at dinner had very good food. Note the restaurant has moved down the street on Heber across from the museum.
