Editorial Review for Ballet West's "The Nutcracker" – by Renee Lowry
The Plot
For Clara Stahlbaum, Christmas Eve is a magical night. The mysterious Herr Drosselmeyer has created an enchanted gift that will send Clara to a dream world filled with glittering fairies and dancing sweets. To lead her through the adventure is the Nutcracker prince--a homely doll turned handsome hero, thanks to Drosselemyer's magic and Clara's love.
The Production
Ballet West founder Willam F. Christensen first staged "The Nutcracker" in 1955. The tradition continues every year, and is always splendid. The costumes and set pieces are unbelievably ornate, enhancing the beauty of the dancers' movements and the grandeur of Tchaikovsky's music. Ballet West dancers are joined by six casts of talented children, for a total of more than 300 dancers.
Family Friendly
The show begins at 7pm. Take advantage of this early start time and bring your children--the fairy tale's charm would dissipate without the little ones.
