Spotty Service - Good Atmosphere.
Troll Hallen for the most part is a great, realaxed bar with good food--although pricey. The Stein burger is worth the trip. We are frequent diners at the bar but be prepared for spotty service-especially if the adjoining Glitretind restaurant is busy. On a recent visit with friends, we brought in a high end bottle of red wine and instead of using the basic white wine glasses that are always on the table, we requested a larger size for a red wine. The waitress told us that we would have to actually pay for larger glasses! We asked to speak to the sommelier who I know through a business relationship. After a few minutes the waitress returned and changed out our glasses to the larger version at no charge. The sommelier never came to our table - shame on her! Summer is the best time to visit--less crowded with better service. Winter tends to be very busy with tourists in town to ski but service is not up to par.

This enchanting bar is a post-skiing favorite and a secluded summertime destination..
The Scene
Hidden away in a corner of the large and airy Stein Eriksen Lodge, the Troll Hallen Lounge offers a uniquely romantic experience. There are no trolls to be found, but the enchanting log cabin has a hint of fantasy, making them quite imaginable.
The Food
The lunch and dinner menu includes moderately priced sandwiches, burgers, soups and other casual fare. If you don't find what you want, though, you can order dinner from the neighboring restaurant, the Glitretind, where entrees include duck, seafood and more. An array of fine wines from around the globe are offered and there's a full bar stocked with various local microbrews. The skilled bartenders make an exceptional martini.

Where's the peeps?.
Well, it's a lovely place -- but you've got to wonder where everyone is -- there's no one here but you and your date, if you've got one. The food is right on, but very pricey for what you get. Service is largely indifferent -- save for the hostesses in earshot of the tables complaining and gossiping to each other!
