The Scene – Bright and airy in a brand-new building--smack next to longtime SLC favorite, Cafe Silvestre. You'll wait a while to order and get your food, but there's plenty of room to sit down and eat. The process is confusing for first-timers: wait, wait, wait...then yell your order. A few moments later, you've got to identify your meal again when they ask you about choice of salsa and toppings. Then wait again as the lone cashier quizzes you once more. – – The Food – Everything is made to order, with a portion of the kitchen dedicated to making fresh tortillas. Meals…

- Why Wait?:
- Call ahead with your takeout order and skip to the front of the line.
Never order online/phone and triple check your to-go bags

(Sorry- this was for the Hunter location- just noticed the wrong address)
I like the food-when I actually get what I ordered. My work is just up the street and a number of us are fans of the food. For a while, we were ordering 2-4 times a week with one of us going and picking up the food. EVERY single time, things were screwed up. Dressings were left out, requests (including ones we paid for) like extra cheese or no cilantro were ignored. Random things were left off (sauces, sour cream.) Entire entrees were left out.
For about six months I just gave up and did not eat there. Last week I caved, decided to try them again. The web order (despite an email showing everything was good) screwed up the whole order (I'm still waiting on my credit card refund to finish processing.) At the store the cashier was rude (as usual with the screwed up orders we've had) helping people around me instead of just getting me the right order. And when I got back to the office with lunch, we had missing dressings, missing items and a screwed up salad.
Today we were picking up our make goods and a few other items and they screwed it up again- we are missing a queso and chips, a dessert and a dressing. It was not a large order.
I don't know if the other locations are as bad, but if you eat at this one, eat in. Don't order on the phone or web.
I LIKE IT!

I have like Cafe Rio since the first time I tried it. The portions are big and I like the flavors. The only thing I will say in a negative manner is the quality of how its put together has been a little off. No pride in their work from the employees and the friendliness is short of excellent.
I don't get it.

What is the deal with this place? It isn't even good. No flavor in anything. I have eaten there probably 4-5 times. Each time I say, "maybe this time will be different." But it is always the same. Very generic food. I prefer Red Iguana or Cancun Cafe to this place.
Come on, your loosing your edge

I just went to the Cafe Rio on 33rd So in Salt Lake City. I order the barbacoa barrito. All Beans and rice. The gal that took my order Put very little pork in and then took half out. I eaten there several times but this was horrible. I think your getting a little to big for your own good and you need to hire hispanics that like gringos. I won't gop back.
Cafe Bland

I first tried this place back in 2005, when former co-workers were raving about the food and the flavor. I should have known better. In that first trip, I went for one of the burrito plates and asked that they smother it in the hottest sauce they had. That was when I started calling this place "Cafe Bland" and referring to their cuisine as "European Mexican." The chicken had zero flavor, the rice was bland, and the so-called "hot sauce" was no warmer than your run of the mill bottle of ketchup. Every time I tell this story, someone who has been enamored with this place continually tells me that I'm ordering the wrong thing. So this past weekend, I took one of them up on their challenge and ordered the same thing they did, the sweet pork barbacoa. Still flavorless, still not near spicy enough for anyone who chooses above the blue bottle of Pace picante sauce, and overall not impressive. I won't bash the people that like this place, since we all have differing tastes, but my taste says "gimme something spicy and hot", and this place falls well short of expectations.
