The Scene
It's a casual, wild-looking little joint with wooden parrots and other exotic birds hanging from the ceiling and one pool table. A sitting area with some old couches, chairs and a coffee table makes for a cozy late-night spot. Chili-pepper lights give the counter a festive flair.
The Food
Think of it as the Blue Iguana abbreviated, with the extra bonus of some breakfast items. Tempting egg dishes like huevos rancheros fill breakfast needs any time of the night and day. Enchiladas can be a bit on the oily side, but the plato Mexicano--a chile verde burrito, tostada and taco with shredded beef--is a good choice, as are the smothered tamales. Looking for late-night eats? The killer nachos--a heaping plate of chips covered with melted cheese, beans, chorizo and chili verde--fit the bill nicely.

Not sure when that photo was taken, but the Blue Iguana Express (new name for Blue Moon Expresso) is not all it cracks up to be. The food was still tasty last time I ate there, but it needs the pool table and cute tables and atmosphere back to be a really good place. Service could use a little work as well, so be prepared for that.
Pros: 24 hours, downtown, quality food
Cons: no more pool, couch, drab decor, service
