Editorial Review for Blue Boar Inn and Restaurant – by Virginia Rainey
The Scene
A cozy dining room in a four-star inn with upscale, alpine lodge decor. Features include alderwood trim, plush upholstery and a small deck for outdoor dining.
The Details
Chef Chris Sheehan takes the best of simple ingredients and makes them shine. A signature appetizer of crispy wild boar ravioli with smoked tomato-tarragon ketchup is straightforward, each flavor announcing itself (and begging to be partnered with a good wine from the extensive list). Seafood is always exquisite here, as are richer offerings like roasted venison loin with boysenberry demi-glace, sun-dried tomato risotto and balsamic-glazed figs. Hoisin-glazed duck excites as well. Layman gathers his own Heber Valley wild mushrooms, gets inventive with herbs from the Inn's garden and gives diners the best of seasonal bounty. A chocolate semifreddo with fresh berry sauce (on a recent prix-fixe tasting menu) was perfection.

Insider Tips
The ExtrasDown the hall from the main dining room is Truffle Hollow, the inn's cozy bar/cafe, featuring a fireplace and a bar made from an antique French moving trunk. In winter, it's a great stop for fondue or a cheese platter.

My wife and I went for our anniversary. We were greated by a warm friendly server who was very attentive. The place is very quiet. You can hear the people next to you - every word unless they sit you carefully. Anyhoo, the food: first course - crab on a bed of grapefruit, mixed greens, and yellow peppers. It was unique and good though not a home run. Second course - spicy tomato and fennel soup: outstanding with a great almost citrus-like undertone. The entrees were good but rather uninspired. I had Elk chops that were overcooked with a reduction sauce that didn't quite work. My wife had a Shrimp pasta dish that sounded far more exotic than it was. Desserts were simple yet delicious. Overall: a worthwhile dining experience but not at the same level as the Tree Room in Sundance or the Metropolitan in SLC.
Pros: Service, Ambience, Appetizers
Cons: unimaginative entrees

My husband and I went to the Blue Boar for our first anniversary. The service and food were wonderful. The food was seasoned and cooked to perfection and well worth the money. The Innkeeper is very nice. We were only dissapointed that the Inn was booked for the night. We would have loved to stay!
