The Scene
The Ice Sheet measures 20,000 square feet, and is home to the Utah State University Aggies and the Weber State University Wildcats, two local hockey clubs. The facility is open to the public for skating, lessons and drop-in hockey. Call the office for schedules and information.
The Skinny on Curling
Curling originated somewhere in Europe--whether it came from Scotland, Finland, England or elsewhere is still debated. It is played by sliding a series of stones--weighing no more than 44 pounds and no bigger than 36 inches in diameter--across a sheet of ice. A team member sweeps the ice in front of the moving stone to reduce friction, allowing for a more accurate throw. Points are scored according to how close the stone lands in relation to the center of the red rings known as the "house," and to the opponents' stones.
